Jakob Boehme (1575-1624) was a German philosopher and Christian mystic who wrote encyclopedic works on a visionary universe. He was considered a prominent theologian and original thinker by many of his contemporaries in the Lutheran tradition. This book is an introduction to Boehme, compiled and edited by W. Scott Palmer from an 18th-century translation of Boehme’s complete works.

Id highly recommend any Christian to listen to this. Getting into perspective of early reformers is good for understanding Jesus more.

A very unique and engaging view of a Christian life.

I have a deep admiration for Jacob Boehme — he is, without question, one of my favorite mystics and spiritual philosophers. His writings penetrate the veil between the seen and unseen, merging theology, mysticism, and cosmic insight in a way few others have achieved. The Confessions is no exception: it radiates with the voice of a soul who has directly encountered the divine mystery. Boehme’s reflections on the nature of God, creation, and the human soul still feel timeless and alive, as if they were written yesterday.

That said, the audio production unfortunately makes it very difficult to experience this brilliance. The recording has a sharp, persistent hiss on every “S” sound, which becomes nearly unbearable over time. It’s a shame, because the content itself deserves the utmost clarity and reverence. I tried multiple times to push through, and eventually managed to finish it several times — but only with considerable effort.

If you can endure the audio flaws, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most profound explorations of divine consciousness ever articulated by a human being. I only hope this masterpiece is re-recorded someday with the care and clarity it truly deserves.
