CLASSIC

A review of Sherlock Holmes for me is essentially a review of Simon Vance. One doesn't critique Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. So this is short and sweet. Simon Vance brings his brilliance to meet the standards we are familiar with and expect. He especially does not try to recreate or become original in his presentation, respecting a persona that is over a century old. He has a voice for Sherlock Holmes that feels familiar given the many productions, excepting the hollywood overkill of recent years. I have enjoyed listening to this collection. And continue to keep Simon Vance in the top of my narrator list.

Truly Complete

This book was truly amazing. I never realized how many stories there were before now, and I'm glad I spent the time to listen to them all. I got this book as a daily deal, and while I normally breeze my way through my audiobooks, this complete series took me almost a month to complete. It was money well spent on a wonderful experience.

Classic Victorian Work, beautifully performed.

Where does The Complete Sherlock Holmes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

top

What other book might you compare The Complete Sherlock Holmes to and why?

I don't listen to much fiction, serialized or otherwise but this is a great collection that I looked forward to my hour or so every day. Very sad to have finished it.

What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?

Outstanding job of fitting voices to characters and the implied social standing of the time. It felt like listening to radio programming in the pre television days. I normally have a hard time adjusting to narrators, taking a few chapters before I can ignore the artistic decisions that more often than not get in the way of the narrative. Not this one. Bravo.

If you could rename The Complete Sherlock Holmes, what would you call it?

The Almost Complete Sherlock Holmes. A few works of Sir ACD were omitted

Outstanding

Fascinating look into the brilliant mind of Sir Arthur Connan Doyle and his creation Sherlock Holmes. Amazingly relevant even more than a century later while being told exceptionally well. Perfect narration. Never thought I'd be so enthralled and hooked for more than 45 hours.

great stories and great story telling

Any additional comments?

This is a wonderful collection and a great value. While this isn't setup for whispersync, i got the ultimate sherlock holmes collection on amazon for $0.99 and follow along as audible plays. Simon Vance truly brings Sherlock Holmes to life.

Sherlock Holmes is the arrogant investor who notices things nobody can and Watson his protege. Most stories are told from Watson's point of view.

Not much more to say. The stories are better than I anticipated. This is a true classic collection!

The Game Is A Foot!

I enjoyed the classic story which was very well read, this features the complete collection which is what I was looking for.
The reader fluctuates his voice depending on certain characters and you come to recognize when he is 'Holmes' or 'Watson', etc.
