Publisher's summary

"For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths." (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

Jesus Christ is coming back. It is certainly a Christian's greatest hope during these difficult times. The Bible warns us that the last days will be tumultuous - wars and rumors of wars will spread (Matthew 24:6). In our age, the world seems to be spinning out of control, creating fear, confusion, and uncertainty. In addition to violence, pestilence, and epidemics, the Bible predicts a great "falling away" from God in the end times. Bible teachers call that "the great apostasy". Are we seeing evidence today in the church of this massive rejection of sound and wholesome teaching?

Best-selling authors Mark Hitchcock and Jeff Kinley team up to examine the evidence from the teachers of our time. Are today's teachers allowing people to follow their own desires by telling them what they want to hear, as the Bible clearly predicts? Are major portions of the church ready to abandon sound and wholesome teaching?

Together, Mark and Jeff explore alarming trends among today's church leaders, and they are simply stunned by what they discover. The great apostasy is coming, but is it closer than we imagine? Let Mark and Jeff be your steady guides to the difficult days ahead.

God's Word never changed never will change

certainly we are in or near the end of end times. society and many "Christians" have lost the fear of God, some Christians militantly twist squeeze and push down Scripture to fit their latest flesh not spirit driven cause. Jesus said they will hate you because they first hated me. The Apostasy church calls themselves tolerant and full of love until their reminded of God's unwavering Truth, anger always ensues. They inherently know the truth. God wrote His law on the hearts of all man... truth threatens experience of the flesh... because those who don't believe can't imagine what He has in store for those who loved Him and we're faithful to Him.... Some of today's church doesn't love people let alone care care about their souls. It's built upon the flesh, the love of money. God never promised an easy road, He said, take up you cross and follow Me. We must know Him through His Word ask Him to reveal His Truth through His Word. Pray for wisdom and discernment so the wolves are easily spotted of course outside of the obvious.... $67M jets and high-end homes cars etc purchased by those sending in checks and prayer requests for miracles who clearly don't know God's Word... if they studied God's word spending time with Him they'd know better... their letters of plea would not end up unread in dumpster heaps among thousands of others. Who or what does your pastor exalt? God's Word over and over warns of the wolves as well as the great falling away into doctrines of lies. Jesus said Wide are the gates of hell, narrow and difficult is the way to Him. Does you pastor preach that? or does he preach something like how have "your best life now". Paul, Timothy, Peter and the others appointed by Jesus were not flesh driven, their lives reflected humility, suffering and terrible persecution for preaching the truth, they preached it with love out of love for God, His truth and people. Never we're they "puffed up" as today's "preachers" feeding their ego and bank accounts on the unsuspecting souls that fail to read God's word for themselves. By not knowing God's word intimately, they allow themselves to be fooled. see Romans 11:21-31. Unlike we see in the lives of some church leaders today, they suffered much persecution for preaching Truth even to death. they took up their cross to spread the True Gospel. Do the lives of Rob Bell, Kenneth Copeland, Crefflo Dollar and others reflect the teachings or lives of the Jesus appointed appostles? Jesus said you will know them by their fruits. Our Psychology driven self first society has has merged with some churches and become a reflection of a Godless anything goes self centered angry mess intolerant of truth. God, Creator of this universe is loving, Holy and just.

Master of the obvious

Basically this book is a recap of all the sins of the world and in the church. Things that are very obvious to most Bible believing Christian‘s. If you need a reminder to stay true to the word of God, this book is for you. If you want a deeper Bible study I’m afraid this is not it. My three star rating means this book is just OK.

Lots of Truth

As a Christian living in a world that seems more fallen by the day, this is an excellent Biblical reminder of why we must stand fast to the Gospel of Christ.

It’s rich in content and words straight from the text and truth of Jesus Christ. It’s well worth the listen for any Christian and serves as a reminder of why we must not be swayed by the apostates.

If you're serious about your faith, read this book

This book is spot on about Apostasy. Today's church is being infiltrated with wickedness disguised as Christianity.

Political

Cherry picks Bible Scripure to create a political partisan divide. Just to name one example... Ironically he doesn't bring up divorce, mentioned MANY TIMES in the Bible. Sounds like he wants to use his political viewpoint to interpret scripture. It's gross. The Apotasy is coming... And it's coming from this book.

Incorrect from the start.

It bothers me when books about the Bible start off with statements or etymologies that just aren’t true. A five second search on the etymology of Sabotage clearly states that the origin DOES NOT come from workers throwing their “sabots” into factory machinery :(
I don’t like having to research everything that I listen to for fear of misinformation (though it’s a good habit)

Wonderful pointer to truth.

This is a book that deserves to be read again and again. The Bible, of course, needs perpetual reading, but Christians often fail to rightly divide the word. The Coming Apostasy is easy to read and understand and is a wonderful pointer for helping restore focus, in this age of great deception.

Fellow atheists, please read this.

I'm an atheist. Normally that wouldn't matter, except that this book asserts a lot of things that I believe are non-sensical.

HOWEVER: I have learned a tremendous amount about the mindset and challenges presented to a truly committed, intellectually honest (or at least as much as faith allows) believer in Christ.
These authors do a fantastic job of explaining exactly why they believe what they believe, oppose what they oppose and are motivated to fight for what they think is righteous. All the while showing no interest at all in political point scoring or pandering. In fact, there is a very, not so subtle spray at red hat wearing Christian Nationalists within these pages.
I honestly don't think there is an ounce of bigotry or hatred within these pages (outside of what an honest reading of the bible requires), and although they will most certainly discuss and object to things for which the modern world will brand them monsters, I honestly believe that these authors do nothing more than make a truly heartfelt, well researched (from the bible) case for holding the opinions they do.
I believe this book had made me significantly more tolerant of the plight of these 'true' Christians.
If you want to understand the mindset of genuine Christian conservatives who are committed to their faith, this is the book for you.
