No humour please

Clarke is fantastic when he takes us to new worlds, distant futures or ancient history seen in a new way. I simply love it. But it seems that in this third collection something new was introduced: humour. And it comes across as hoplessly nerdish - if I smile it is the overbearing smile you put on your face when the guy who desperately wants to be funny cracks another lame joke. Still I am going on to vil IV and hope Clarke is back on track!

Good readers, reasonable selection but NO TITLES!

Good performances and a decent selection of stories, although not my favourite collection of Clarke's short stories.

But really, a short story collection with just numbers for chapter titles!? It's lazy production and makes it huge pain to find out what's in it (you literally have to listen to the first few seconds of each chapter, or minutes in the case of the first one because they didn't bother to separate the preface either) and also to find a particular story. Even paper books have a contents page!

A mixture of enjoyable works

With a collection of short stories it's hard to give a single opinion on how good it was. some of these deserve a full book/film/TV series made of them and others I skipped after a few minutes. Over all worth a look because you can skip to a new story at any point but you will be disappointed when a story with great potential ends after 30 minutes.

Timeless

It’s many years since I devoured all I could find by Arthur C Clarke. I’m delighted to find these stories nestle comfortably in the 21st Century. They’re beautifully read too. A delight.

A few too many 'Tales from the White Hart'?

On the whole an excellent collection and certainly very entertaining. My main criticism - and it's a personal taste issue - is that the 'Tales from the White Hart' were rather dominant in this volume. They were fun, on the whole, but not my taste in Sci Fi. I preferred Volume 2.
