Publisher's summary

This is not a satire, but it takes a satirical approach to shedding light upon a very dark subject: narcissistic abuse.

It is intended to demonstrate to those struggling with codependency just how narcissists actually view them. By listening to their "play book", codependents should be able to recognize covert abuse and avoid its pernicious effects.

This audio download put me in control of my life!

If you could sum up The Codependent User's Manual: A Handbook for the Narcissistic Abuser in three words, what would they be?

Empowering, Enlightening, Savior

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Codependent User's Manual: A Handbook for the Narcissistic Abuser?

Learning what was going on in my life. I have been used by so many people. I had totally shut down, and now that I know what was happening and why, I can live a normal life, and sidestep those narcissists who seek me out on a continual basis and use me. My whole life has changed. The old saying, "This is the first day of your life?" This is definitely the first day of my life.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

I plan to memorize the whole thing. I have pages on pages of notes... but I will listen to this daily. I will meditate on it, I will write about it. I will journal daily regarding my situation and how these people try to enter my life. They'll never be able to again. I am over all manipulation and will act now, in an empowered and self-beneficial way.

Any additional comments?

Thank you, John Bet, for restoring my sanity, my self-esteem, and my life. I have now the tools to live happily and powerfully for MYSELF! First time in my life and I am 63. I am more grateful than you could know! Thank you.

Triggering

This almost made me relive everything Im healing from. Perhaps it would've been a better read if I was earlier on. But now, after knowing so much about narcissistic abuse it only served as a reminder. I did not feel empowered by the end of it. I was also hoping for some reassuring words but none whatsoever.

This book is really helpful to identify a narcisist, even when well camouflaged. Many thanks to the author!!!

Thank you

I just finished this book, and I can look back on each and every example given and substitute my own experience. I have been completely unaware how I had gone from my relationship with my mother to my now ex husband. I can't begin to describe the level of relief this book has offered me. I am not crazy.

Insight from another perspective! On point!

I love the play by play descriptions and the perspective this book gives. I will be suggesting this to my clients who struggle with co-dependency.

O MI GOSH!!!

Details everything, everything!! Has helped me realize, although they play the victim card so well, they are far from it!! Honestly have to go back and take notes and study this book, know it like the back of my hand! This has flipped the script for me, I’m taking my life back!!

I feel disturbed, yet validated 😢😞🙁🤔

This is not a type of "How to 'move on,' 'deal with,' 'identify,' or, 'get revenge'" self help book. However it is therapeutic, in my case, in the way it allowed me to witness several, almost identical, examples of what I lived through.

It validated for me that first, I am codependent, so I can now work to improve that part of me. But most importantly; all the unease, self doubting, feeling crazy, diminished self worth, anxiety, that I increasingly felt over 11 years of marriage, is the same reality, unfortunately, for many others. It wasn't me who orchestrated this. It is the way of the narcissist.

I unfortunately cannot realistically go "no contact" with my abuser. We have young children to co-parent. But hearing the actual game plan of a narcissist in this manner is eye opening enough to keep me aware of the traps my ex, or anyone, may try to set to reel me into their grasp.

As unnerving as it was to hear my experiences being replayed, through the mind of a narcissist, I absolutely loved it, and will listen several more times!!
