Anna Schmidt is too independent for a woman of the 1800s. Worse yet, she doesn’t have a man to curb her unwomanly tendencies. Flooding, blizzards, heat, dust, and an incredible amount of physical labor are all set to do this determined woman in. She takes it on and through the years, succeeds despite the odds, despite not having a man to depend on, showing herself and the world that this woman not only can, but will, make a home, a farm, and a ranch on the wild prairies. She did it again

After listening to a female character in this story being so strong and powerful one just feels so inspired. Now when I look at farms and ranches by my own house it makes me want to buy a farm, or at least a horse or two. Well done. a must read or listen.

Great book, needs a sequel.

Loved the book and the narrating was perfect. I would love to see a sequel with her husband.

NOT LGBTQ

l have read a number of books by Ms. Meinel and enjoyed them all,so I was greatly disappointed to find that this book is a story about a heterosexual relationship. It could have been another great LGBTQ story but Ms. Meinel copped out and we have another story about a woman who needs a man to compete her. Had I known I would not have wasted my money,and now I'll probably not trust any more of her book description so no more books by Ms. Meinel.
If you're looking for a straight story then you'll probably like this one.
