Publisher's summary

The first book in the dramatic new saga from the number one Sunday Times best-selling author.

Holding the letter in trembling hands, Daisy’s future crumbled before her – the words engraved on her heart forever.

The village of Little Creek, the long winter of 1867.

The first flakes of snow are falling when Daisy Marshall, secretly engaged to her master's son, finds herself jilted at the altar.

Heartbroken, Daisy flees to the small village of Little Creek, nestled on the coast of Essex. There she is warmly welcomed – but the village is poverty-stricken, suffering under a cruel lord of the manor. And when cholera hits, the villagers are truly in dire straits.

Determined to help, Daisy makes new friends in earnest doctor Nicholas and dashing smuggler Jay – but also dangerous new enemies, who threaten to destroy everything she’s built. Can Daisy save the village and find happiness in time for Christmas?

Didn't care for narration

The narrator's voice was too old for Daisy and the other young women in the story! She was fine for the older women but I could never picture Daisy as a young woman because of the voice of Annie Aldington. It was a poor choice of whomever picked the narrator to read this book. The narrator had a lower class British accent which was fine for many of the characters, but she could not change it to an upper class British accent when required. Also, the story was to trite and predictable. I didn't like all the long descriptions of the various illnesses either. I may return this book, if possible.

Over the 🌈 love conquers

Gripping story, man's humanity to man, where hatred and love conquers all. Loved it to the end.
How times change.
Enjoyed the narrator, her voice was gentle and clear.

Nice story

This is a nice enough story, But , I found the story line rather slow and not really exciting enough. I feel certain storylines could have been a bit more draw out rather than skating over them. Certain lines were getting exciting then it came to an abrupt end which was ashame. The narrator did a good job although I felt she got a bit mixed up with the voices of certain characters a couple of times. But over all she was good.
I did enjoy it, but not exciting enough for me, I have the 2nd book already although I didn't know it was the 2nd book when I bought it. Hence the reason I bought this one. I will eventually read it, but not yet. I hope it will be a better storyline.

Loved It.

I really loved this story and with
the narrator being Annie Aldinton it was obviously great as usual. Also the author being
Dilly court, the story was great as usual too!! It just sounded like an old one ((book) or that Dilly court
had a cold, but that didn't take anything away from the brilliance!! 👍😁
PS:. 17th October 2019 I think.(Just as good as today!)

Interesting but a little frustrating

As sadly and frequently happens with American authors, they cannot help themselves but include Americanisms in stories set in England! Every time I heard the word "creek", it grated on me and since every place and home seems to be called Creek ****, that was quite often! There were others too, which were equally annoying, but the story albeit a little slow to get started was a bit different than your usually HR books and as I'd downloaded the set and listened to them one after the other, so on balance, I managed to put up with them.

The Christmas Wedding

I really enjoy Ms Court’s work and this book didn’t fail to please from that point of view. However I have to say that toward the end I was finding our main character or ‘heroine’ to be quite nauseating. She was continually (in my opinion) sticking her nose in everywhere, was morally superior and an opinionated goody goody. I’m sure most people are more tolerant than me though so please don’t let it put you off!
