Story
When Jenny inherits her estranged grandmother’s cottage in Sherwood Forest, she has nothing to lose - no money, no job, no friends, no family to speak of, and zero self-respect. Things can only get better.... Her grumpy but decidedly handsome new neighbour, Mack, has a habit of bestowing unsolicited good deeds on her. And when Jenny is welcomed into a rather unusual book club, life seems to finally be getting more interesting. Instead of reading, the members pledge to complete individual challenges before Christmas.

All Marnie wants is somewhere to call home. Mourning lost years spent in a marriage that has finally come to an end, she needs a fresh start and time to heal. Things she hopes to find in the rural west Lancashire village her mother always told her about. With nothing but her two green thumbs, Marnie takes a job as a gardener, which comes with a little cottage to make her own. The garden is beautiful - filled with roses, lavender and honeysuckle - and only a little rough around the edges. Which is more than can be said for her next-door neighbour, Ned Mars.

Alice Rose is a foundling, discovered on the Yorkshire moors above Haworth as a baby. Adopted but then later rejected again by a horrid stepmother, Alice struggles to find a place where she belongs. Only baking - the scent of cinnamon and citrus and the feel of butter and flour between her fingers - brings a comforting sense of home. Publisher's Summary
A brilliant new Christmas novel from Sunday Times best-selling author Trisha Ashley.
Meg is definitely not in the Christmas mood. She’s never gone in for tinsel, baubles and mistletoe, and right now she’s still getting over an illness. Yet when she’s invited to spend the run-up to Christmas in the snowy countryside rather than dreary London, she can’t refuse.
Arriving at a warm and cosy family home in a small hilltop village, Meg soon begins to wonder what a proper Christmas might be like. But just as she’s beginning to settle in, she spots a familiar face. Lex.
Despite the festive cheer, Meg suddenly wants nothing more than to get as far away from him, and their past secrets, as she can. But if she stays, could this be the year she finally discovers the magic of Christmas....?
Fabulously funny, intelligent and heart-warming, Trisha Ashley’s brand-new novel is the feel-good Christmas novel of the year. It even contains recipes!

THE VERY THING!
I had already read this, on kindle, and found it one heck of a good story, couldn’t put it down! But, I’m a Southerner (middle Tennessee) and knew from past experiences, listening to it read properly would lend the story, and the characters, a whole new authenticity. And I was right; this was a delightful listening experience, Emma Powell’s narration, flawless! The Christmas Invitation is Trisha Ashley’s Christmas Gift to us all! Cash in your credit, and enjoy!

Not for me
I have now decided to give up on this one, I was really looking forward to a good Christmas story but I have after several hours of listening still found it boring, and the narration of some of the characters is depressing and driving me crazy. So I obviously disagree with most of the other reviews on this one.

Would not recommend!
Reading the blurb I assumed that this would be a romantic story of lost loves over the years with the special Christmas touch and 'will they, won't they' vibes. What the book actually ended up being was the complete opposite. Overall I felt the story dragged then was the polar opposite towards the end as it became chaotic and rushed with story lines being pulled in left right and centre. There was a lot of unnecessary detail + character additions that were added by the most ridiculous of connections (would not happen in real life). I found aspects rather repetitive, Clara would speak about an event in her memoirs and then it would be repeated but in current day. I also found the narrators voice did not change much between the characters and at points they overlapped. Lex's voice almost sounded identical to Meg's! If you are looking for a heart-warming, family-spirit Christmas book then this is for you, I personally think not a romance.

Took me a little time to settle into this story, but once hooked I couldn’t put it down. It was romantic mixed with family intrigued and mystery. Very colourful characters throughout. I loved it. Well worth buying to listen to or in book form.

A good book with an unexpected twist.
absolutely loved this book, I'm all for easy listening and at this time of year a festive book or 2 always pops up. this was not only festive but had a bit of grit to it. I've heard books read by Emma before and I really like how she reads and you can clearly distinguish characters. defo worth a read, I didnt know this was Tesco book club book before I listened to it xx
