William Gurnall (1616 - 79) was born in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cambridge University. From 1644 until his death, he served as rector of St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church, Lavenham, Suffolk.

must read for every Christian

This is the most convicting book I have read and that gives a clear application for a believer in Christ. This is a must read for the pastor and new Christian alike.

This is worth the price or a credit

I own a copy of the full text volume of this work and this abridged version is excellently performed. Don't let the short reading time fool you. The quality of the material in audible format is exceptional for devotional purposes. Chapters are approximately 10 minutes in length. A short biography precedes the sections of content. I guarantee you will listen to this multiple times. Such true instruction and wisdom is hard to find and rarely as visceral as Gurnall makes it. Bless yourself and your family and community with it.

Up to date and relevant

We tend to think ourselves very sophisticated and wise. A quick listen to this 350+ year old work will quickly inform you that not only has man not changed over time but these sins, problems, foibles and the solutions have been known since antiquity. If anything, he's more wise and sophisticated than our modern age.

Condensed wisdom

It has so much in a few sentences tuntil it says that I need to buy the printed copy. But the audio is worth it too.

I really loved this book. There are so many quotables in this! I did speed it up a bit because I found myself getting distracted by my thoughts inspired by things that were said. very thought provoking book. it challenges you to really think. I will definitely be listening to it again and possibly even taking notes next time.
