Publisher's summary

Like all citizens since the ruining, Carrington Hale knows the importance of this day. But she never expected the moment she'd spent a lifetime preparing for - her choosing ceremony - to end in disaster. Ripped from her family, she'll spend her days serving as a lint, the lowest level of society. She knows it's her duty to follow the true way of the authority.

But as Carrington begins this nightmare, rumors of rebellion rattle her beliefs. Though the whispers contradict everything she's been told, they resonate deep within.

Then Carrington is offered an unprecedented chance at the life she's always dreamed of, yet she can't shake the feeling that it may be an illusion. With a killer targeting lints and corruption threatening the highest levels of the authority, Carrington must uncover the truth before it destroys her.

Sooooo good!!!

Such an amazing story of seeing how your father sees you, rather than the world. That your worth isn’t based on things of this world! Loved this!!

Great Read

It was a great book, it left me looking forward to the next one and more by Rachelle Dekker. She is her father's daughter, and his influence in her writing is obvious if you know him. The deranged male antagonist, who thinks he is holy and his actions are what God has called him to do is a prime example. I personally wished Rachelle had gone another route. We've seen this many times in Ted's books, i.e. Boneman's Daughters and The Bride Collector.
I feel the Christian storyline she's trying to develop is lacking. I find it weak. It's all about being loved by our Father, and nothing about conversion, repentance and redemption. Don't get me wrong, I do believe the Father loves us all equally, but I also believe that repentance is necessary. and this story had nothing to with repenting or sin, it was simply that if you believed the Father loved you and you are chosen by Him, then that's enough.
Would I recommend this book? Yes, highly.

Daughter Like Father

Would you consider the audio edition of The Choosing to be better than the print version?

nope

What did you like best about this story?

A new and different way of looking at a Dystopian world, Even though the characters think it is a Utopian. Very creepy, because as a Christian you can clearly see how the tenements of God can be skewed if interpreted by evil controlling men.

Did Morgan Hallett do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

eh

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Choosing self-will does not make you free.

Any additional comments?

I loved the actual story and the potential in this young writer is boundless, but from a personal point of view (and that's what this is), the "he said" "she said" [I'm going to the store, she said. OK, he said].and the use of so many idioms to describe the characters thoughts made me chuckle a little at times- "Their eyes joined together like puzzle pieces"....
I know this is nit-picking, but little stuff like that really gets on my nerves and makes it hard to listen to an Audio book.
But in saying that, I am truly not trying to detract from my love of this world Rachelle Dekker has created and I look forward to the next book. And like her father, I love the way she thinks.
And that is my two cents worth.

Great Utopian story

This was really well written and narrated. I enjoyed it very much. I love a good mystery mixed with some romance and gospel message. I would definitely listen to this again.

This was good, very different

I found myself feeling sorry for Carrington and hoping the bad guys got what they deserved. This book was not what I expected, but I did listen to the end. I am not sorry I purchased and I will listen to it again to see if I missed anything !

Very good...

The narrator did a great job. The book was very interesting and original. Rachelle Dekker's storytelling gives her dad Ted Dekker a run for his money! I am hooked!

so far so good :-)

So far I love it I love how this in the world was thought out really well. the characters were great the only thing that I didn't absolutely love was the character Aaron.

Aaron is very vague and he talks about the father and never talked anything about God or the Holy Spirit . is Aaron supposed to be Jesus? I'm really confused about that.
