Publisher's Summary

In the rain forests of Peru, an ancient manuscript has been discovered. Within its pages are 9 key insights into life itself - insights each human being is predicted to grasp sequentially, one insight after another in the move toward a completely spiritual culture on earth. The Celestine Prophecy, a compelling story of intrigue, suspense, and revelation, is a guidebook that has the power to crystallize your perceptions of why you are where you are in life - and to direct your steps with a new energy and optimism as you head into tomorrow. This work has come to light at a time when the world - and you - need it most.

Good book, but I didn't like the voice

I've read this book before, but hearing it read by this particular reader did not add to my enjoyment. He sounds like he's reading a 3rd grader a bedtime story. But this is not that type of book - it's very spiritual, and I expected a different tone. Not dramatized, not preachy, but not contrived to inspire wonder either. The voice should drop at the end of important points, and there are many in this book. The reader's suspension of his voice in the upper registers without bringing closure to each sentence makes it campy to me. This of course is just my opinion, having already imagined a tone for the book. First-timers might not feel this way about this version.

Good message/bad story

I would categorize this book as a self help type listen. A friend of mine highly recommended I order it because of the philosphy of the writer. The story itself was very poorly written and amaturish. The writer would tell a story and then explain the point, as though you are a child. The philosphy itself was eye-opening and very helpful to me. If you are interested to know his philosphy and you are in the mood to extract this from this listen, it would be worth your while to order.

Abridged

What disappointed you about The Celestine Prophecy?

It is abridged. It's not a big book, why is it abridged? I am ripped off

A favorite1

I have listened to this book several times. It has been an inspiration to me repeatedly. The audio version of this book means even more to me than the writen version. I don't know why, but it does. It is an all time great book!

What a load of tripe...

Very poorly written and pretty hokey in general. New age muck mixed up with some self help postive thinking glop and you get this.
I agree with the other reviewer that I wanted to go to sleep listening to the reader.
I can't believe the author felt it necessary to write a "Concise Guide", unless to make a few more bucks off this mush.
Goofy and unbelievable as a novel, even less as a philosophy.

Inspiring

This is one of the most inspiring books I have ever come across, this is a spiritual fictional thriller that offers fast paced action as well as amazing insights in to how the world could be. This story is based around a manucsript that was written thousands of years ago by the Mayans in Peru and in it they have predicted how the world and humans will develop spiritually in the 20th and 21st Centuries, it is a really lovely story and always makes me smile when I think about it. It will give you hope that the world may find peace and harmony at some stage!

Great adventure recording quality needs improving

Gripping adventure interesting concepts, it sets the imagination off running with the characters. I really love stories that pull you in right from the beginning the narration was very well done but had an annoying pinging noise in the background I have spread the word although a few friends have preferred to buy the book. Great listening once sound quality has been corrected.

A thought provoking book

Although I had been asked to read the Celestine Prophecy for many years, the book has always eluded me, for one reason or another. Although I do remember initially starting to read a paper back version, but gave up, as I sometimes I think these type of books to read can be a little intense and can have you back tracking more often then not! A friend who had recently returned from Peru and had been on a similar journey of insights and lesson in life. I felt compelled to read this book again. Having discovered audible.co.uk I thought maybe I might grasp the story of the Celestine Prophecy more easily if I listened to it rather then attempt to read it again.. This was my first audio book which I downloaded with reasonable ease and listened with great interest. This time I finished it! and understood it - amazing!!! The narration was varied and kept my interest. I would recommend this book especially in audio format and look forward to listening to the insights. A thought provoking book!

It wasn't for me, felt like a 80s budget movie.

The backbone of this story is something that deeply interests me and the spiritual context I hoped would of resonated with me, but it felt more like a good idea for a story that the author had, but failed to deliver. It was rushed and messy, with the main character handed these extremely rare and valuable secret transcripts always everywhere he went, but as soon as he finds one, he gets the next one almost straight after. It should have been more of a journey to enlightenment, instead ot was a few days of reading a book. I lost track of who was who, as the characters were neither notable or interesting and the names were lost on me, mostly through disinterest. I persevered to the end, but felt the message relayed, could have been summed up in one paragraph.

My biggest problem with it was the he said, I said, he said, I said, he said, I said ....... during every conversation. Maybe this wouldn't have been so bad to read, but hearing the narrator say this over and over was quite irritating.

This is my first bad review, I feel kind of bad, but I was so excited to read or hear this and it really disappointed.

The narrator has ruined one of my favourite books

I have loved this book for many years, and have read it countless times when younger. The narrator was so bad! He kept forgetting to change voices between characters. He was very monotone and didn't capture the essence of the book at all. It was a very lazy effort on his part.
So so so sad this books been portrayed in this way.

Too fast

Love the story but didn't enjoy how it was read - mainly because I found it felt rushed - too fast. I tried to play it at a slower speed but it sounded ridiculous.

Love The Insight

Wanted to re visit this after reading it when it first came out many years ago. Enjoyed the storyline just as much the second time. Not literary genius, but the kind of book that can transport you into the imagery of Peru. For people that like a little adventure with a strong spiritual point of view as the theme, I highly recommend this story.
