Publisher's summary

Yuri Danko, a deep-cover Russian asset for Covert-One, is on the run. His last communication was a cryptic and urgent plea for extraction. With no hint of what could have driven Danko to such extreme action, operative Jon Smith is sent to the pre-arranged meeting place in Venice to bring Danko out. Days later, Danko arrives at the rendezvous - but before he can reveal what he knows, he is ripped apart by a spray of assassins' bullets.

With only some scant clues left behind by Danko to go on, John Smith quickly concludes that someone is out to do the unthinkable: steal a sample of smallpox from Russia's cache of bioweapons. The deadliest of viruses, if a new mutation of smallpox were developed and released, it could cause an epidemic of unparalleled destruction.

Working to stop the theft, Covert-One finds the adversaries are several steps ahead of them. The virus is smuggled out of Russia to the United States. Now Jon Smith and his colleagues must unravel the mystery of the Cassandra Compact, overcome their powerful and invisible opponents, and recover or destroy the virus - before the power of Armageddon falls into the hands of a madman.

Great story and reading....but. the audio quality almost had me stop listening after the first few minutes, while it dosn't get better the story kept me in the book the whole way thru.

Little hard to follow

For some reason it was a little hard to follow who was who and what part they were taking in the overall book. Towards the end it became more clear but the feeling of lost made it a difficult read (listen). The narrator was good. I am a Scott Brick fan but this guy did a good job.

It's almost like if you stop, you'll miss somethin

Here is another one that can scare the daylights out of you. It's almost like War of the Worlds in that if you heard this on the TV you'd think it was real and the world was going to end.

The one thing I found objectionable was the music between chapters. I found it distracting and made it harder to get back into the swing of story. Although I enjoyed the book, I would have enjoyed it more without the music.

Covert One Formula Fiction, woot.

Would you try another book from Robert Ludlum and Philip Shelby and/or Paul Michael?

I like the Covert one stories, though I'm kinda a junkie for book series. I like seeing the same characters develop over long periods and Robert Ludlum does this as well if not better than most. So while I say

The ending dissapoints

I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to storytelling but there is a whole big NASA and space shuttle thing going on with this story that is reeeeeeally a stretch. I guess I enjoyed the story, but the ending is a huge let down. I rolled my eyes and thought about how the author has done SO much better. Not a waste of money, but you know....

Not much Ludlum in this

Started out okay but then became very predictable. No suspense to speak of - solutions to problems automatically appeared as soon as needed. The best part of this "Ludlum (but not)" is the outstanding narration of Paul MIchael. I am such a fan I will listen to things like this just to hear him work.

Another Great Read (Listen)

This series does not disappoint. It was full of action, twists, and turns. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
