Publisher's Summary
A captain seeking to repair the past and the daughter of a fallen gentleman, searching for a treasure that will change their lives forever.
The end of the Napoleonic wars comes as a relief to Caspar Graysmark, but before he can settle into the comfortable life of an English lord he has a duty to the people of France. A treasure lies hidden in the heart of the forest, stolen gold that would save the lives of many who lost everything during the war. In his quest, Caspar stumbles across a hidden cottage in the woods, and a different sort of treasure altogether.
Scarlett, living with her sister and grandmother, belongs nowhere. Her father’s mistakes led to their exile from England and their banishment into the forest. The cold winter months have taken their toll on Scarlett’s spirits and her grandmother’s health. The Englishman who arrives at Scarlett’s door, looking more like a bear than a captain of the British army, reminds her of all she lost to the war.
With winter drawing to a close, Caspar must find the missing gold, but his quest to right the wrongs of war has changed. Can Scarlett let him rescue her, too?
The Captain and Miss Winter is based on the story of Snow White and Rose Red, as recorded by the Brothers Grimm. It is a sweet/clean romance novella, and is Book 2 in a series of Regency retellings. The stories can be heard in any order.

Charming!
Caspar and Scarlett were two very delightful characters in this Regency fairytale story. I didn't read the synopsis very closely before I started listening to this story and was trying to puzzle out which fairytale it was based on. I kept thinking possibly some fairytale about a bear...in my memory there was some vague recollection of a fairytale or maybe it was a myth about a bear. But when I finished the book and finally read the synopsis I realized it was based on Snow White and Rose Red by the Grimm Brothers. And I can't recall if I've read their version of Snow White or not. If any of you know something about the bear myth/fairytale that was nudging its way to the forefront of my brain feel free to enlighten me. And it could be very possible that it is from the Brothers Grimm and I have read it and had just forgotten.
I really enjoyed the bit of mystery and suspense throughout this one and the fairytale quality of it. Caspar is a gentleman through and through and it showed throughout the book in every scene he was in. His care for Scarlett and her family was evidence of that. I couldn't help but grin and feel relief for them when he showed up and helped to lighten their burdens and cares through simple little tasks. When it talked about the sisters having to shovel all the snow and that it would take them hours to do so, then Caspar without being asked, swept in and shoveled it for them in a shorter amount of time I could have cheered loudly. Hee Hee! I live where it snows A LOT! And a house I lived in for several years has an enormously long driveway. It would take me hours to clear it off with no help, only to have the snow cover it up completely and I'd have to clear it off again. I enjoyed it but man was I grateful when the snowblower was an option (it worked sporadically so manual shoveling it was)!
I have always loved fairytales, the lighter happier versions more so than the dark and grim originals. I enjoy seeing how different authors can create their own spin on those fairytales, and this one was charming. Scarlett was a light to read/listen about. I loved her finding joy in her situation and adding her humor to the more dreary moments of her life.
A fun winter story to enjoy while snuggled up with your favorite hot cocoa flavor and fuzzy blanket!
Content: Clean. A couple moments of mild peril.
Happy Reading!!!

Mystery, intrigue and Love too?
Three ladies nestled in a cottage in the middle of a forest. A stranger at the door seeking food and shelter. A treasure to be found. It hooked me from the start. Love how the character’s stories unfolded. Can he find the treasure and will the women let him help them? Great story l’m going to pass it on to my daughters and granddaughters.

Snowy weather and warm feelings
When love comes knocking...
The Captain and Miss Winter is a sweet historical romance novella full of snowy weather and worm feelings that will melt your heart away.
Scarlet Winter lived in a small cottage in the middle of the French forest with her grandmother and her sister Blanche.
Their home was very humble, and they farmed for survival without any servants.
One snowy and stormy night, a man knocked at their door, asking for shelter. He was a Captain in the English army named Casper.
The Napoleonic wars had just ended, and Casper had returned to France to find a box that he left behind during the war.
The women gave him shelter, and he soon realized that, despite their poverty, they were educated English ladies. The mystery of their situation puzzled him.
The audiobook was very well narrated, and I especially liked how Scarlet's French accent was portrayed.
The story has all the elements that I love: an honorable hero, a smart and caring heroine, strong side characters, a slow-burn romance, and a real sense of companionship and family.
The audio (3 hours) length is also perfect because you can listen to it in one sitting or during a short trip.
I've read a few other books by Mrs. Briton, and I love her romantic and sweet stories.
The Captain and Mis Winter is a lovely historical romance novella about hard times and finding the strength to keep going.
I received a code for this audiobook from the author for an honest review.

love it!!!!
I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I very much enjoy the books I've read by Sally Britton, and this Regency period adaptation of the fairytale Snow White and Rose Red was extremely well written.
The narrator spoke clearly, easy to be understood. The accents and voice inflections were distinct and unique to each character.

A sweet fairytale retelling
This is a sweet story of rescue and a bit of redemption. Casper is searching for a treasure that was discovered and then lost during the war while in France. He comes across a cottage during a snow storm and seeks refuge. The three woman kindly shelter him from the storm. He is enchanted with Scarlet a young woman of twenty years. Scarlet and Casper both harbor a few secrets. They have to decide if they will trust each other with those secrets. The characters were all very kind. I would have liked to see another chapter or two at the end of the book. But otherwise I was happy with the conclusion of this short story.

Sweet Recency Fairy Tale
What a beautiful retelling of Snow White and Rose Red. I truly enjoy the writing style of Sally Britton. Narrator Jessica Elisa Boyd did a wonderful job with the character's accents, especially the blend of English and French spoken by the three women. I loved strong and honorable Caspar and his relationship with Scarlet. There is romance (clean) and a little mystery, everything that I like a book, I would definitely recommend this book to others, it was a sweet, listen.

So great!!
I’ve always loved the story of Snow White and Rose Red — and this tale did not disappoint!
Jessica Elisa Boyd did another amazing job. I loved hearing just a little bit of accent in her heroines’ voices — because Blanche is a heroine too! — even if sometimes it didn’t necessarily come off as French, it was still not-quite-British either.
And I loved the story. It was different in surprising ways to me — I’m very familiar with the original story and love both versions!

Another great novel by Britton
This was a truly sweet, clean and feel good story. Set in France during the Regency era, it incorporates all of the components that I enjoy! Intrigue, suspense, humour and romance - include a spunky, beautiful heroine and a kind, handsome hero along with a doting grandmother and observant, no-nonsense little sister.... what’s not to love?!
I have enjoyed every one of Sally Britton’s books and this one is no different. Excellently narrated by the talented Jessica Elisa Boyd, this story is a pleasure to listen to.
