Publisher's Summary

"Call of the Wild" is the story of Buck, a magnificent dog who is stolen from his idyllic life and sold for use on a Yukon dogsled team. His travels are not only of a physical nature, as he learns hard discipline from men who must discipline their dog teams, but his own journey back to his primordial roots in the frozen tundra - the roots of wolf. This amazing story of transformation is beautifully written and provides a glimpse of the hard life in the Yukon Territory during the 1900s.

Terrible Narration

Mispronunciations, zero pauses (even between chapters), and a voice that attempts to sound like the suspenseful movie trailer guy through the whole story; this is not “The Call of the Wild” I remember. I was looking for a quick listen before the movie release to refresh my memory. Unfortunately I was driving when I started and just had to let it play. I do not recommend this version.

Classic story from the perspective of the dog

But nothing fantastical, everything believable, and a great story told with a deep rumbling voice.

Fantastic Story, wish it had a better narrator

Call of the Wild is one of my favorite books, and with the new movie coming out, I picked this up for $0.65. the story is still as strong as ever, but the narrator was a bit stiff. it was worth the less than a dollar I paid for it, but this is a tale that needs a more robust narrator. I highly recommend this book, but I'm sure there are better recording out there of it!

Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. The riveting tale of a dog, weathering variuos human encounters until discoverig his wolfish ancestry. Biology, understood and made inescapable.

Great!

I didn't think I'd care for this story, but it only forty-seven cents, so I figured I had nothing much to lose. But it was actually really good, it held my interest, and I enjoy the narrator's voice (I've listened to three books read by him now, and he's my favorite so far!).
Viva Buck!!!!!

Brutal

This is a brutal story that has many instances of human cruelty to animals. I would not read this to my children.

Very poor reader

This guy mispronounces so many words that it’s a major distraction. I strongly recommend against buying this version.

I'd forgotten that this story rent my heart

I hadn't read this book since I was a child, but decided to have another go at it since the new movie is coming out. It was good, hard to listen to, but good nonetheless. Michael Vick would've "loved" Buck.
