Publisher's Summary

The exciting end to The Poppy War trilogy, R. F. Kuang's acclaimed, award-winning epic fantasy that combines the history of 20th-century China with a gripping world of gods and monsters, to devastating, enthralling effect.

After saving her nation of Nikan from foreign invaders and battling the evil Empress Su Daji in a brutal civil war, Fang Runin was betrayed by allies and left for dead.

Despite her losses, Rin hasn't given up on those for whom she has sacrificed so much - the people of the southern provinces and especially Tikany, the village that is her home. Returning to her roots, Rin meets difficult challenges - and unexpected opportunities. While her new allies in the Southern Coalition leadership are sly and untrustworthy, Rin quickly realizes that the real power in Nikan lies with the millions of common people who thirst for vengeance and revere her as a goddess of salvation.

Backed by the masses and her Southern Army, Rin will use every weapon to defeat the Dragon Republic, the colonizing Hesperians, and all who threaten the shamanic arts and their practitioners. As her power and influence grows, though, will she be strong enough to resist the Phoenix's intoxicating voice urging her to burn the world and everything in it?

Featured Article: The Best Audiobook Series of All Time by Genre

What makes a good audiobook series? There are as many answers to this question as there are listeners. For some, it might be epic battles. For others, it might be ongoing romantic twists and tensions. For still others, it might be elongated character studies or an in-depth analysis of a particular time and place. But the universal element of a truly great series is that it sticks with you long after the last word. These are our favorites from every major genre.

Awesome foundation, horrible main character

There’s a BIG possibility y’all would like this series. There were parts I liked. It’s well written and a good story. Probably could’ve been complete in 1 or 2 books but 3 long novels later, I could never connect to the main character. I spent the whole series thinking she’d grow, change, learn from her mistakes, etc..... nope. Completely frustrating. Her anger, lack of growth, blindness, selfishness, child-like tendencies, and callousness throughout the whole series lost me and I ended up rooting against her till the end.

Great ending to a great series

This was a really good read on its own merit and it lives up to the strength of the rest of the series. I won't give anything away, but WOW, what an ending. The Poppy War is one of the best series I've read in a long time.

I didn't expect that ending

I truly enjoyed this series. I listened to the 1st 2 books and I guess I had pre-ordered the last book and it popped up in my library! I felt like I was meeting up with old friends. Months had passed since I read the 1st 2 books but all of the characters as mentioned were easily remembered due to the authors ability to convey their personalities and visages so well. I didn't expect such a sad ending. I guess I hoped for what Runin and Kitai hoped for but alas, it wasn't meant to be.

Great End To A Great Trilogy

I've been a huge fan of the Poppy War books since I discovered them earlier this year. While the books stand on their own, anyone with an interest in modern Chinese history will particularly enjoy them. Kuang creates deeply human characters whose lives explore the horrors of China's Century of Humiliation in the fictional empire of Nikan. I highly, highly recommend this boom and the entire series. Enjoy!
