Entertaining and funny

It's easy to get caught up in the characters Frank Muller brings to life through his reading. How the author presents the story is entertaining and he dispays a fun sense of humor with his witty dialogue. If you are a film noir fan, the ending will be somewhat predictable. Recommended reading.

Ho-Hum

The Bogart aspect of this book starts out cute and then falls apart as the reader gets summary after summary of Bogart movies. The "mystery" is not very interesting--no suspense.

Wonderful to hear Frank Muller

I bought this on the holiday sale (Thank you, Audible) because I had enjoyed "Hit Man" by Lawrence Block many years ago, but mostly because Frank Muller (Rest in Peace, 2008) was narrating. Though I have current favorite narrators, no one tops Frank Muller. What a treat to hear him.

This was a witty romp which reminded me of Garrison Keillor's "Guy Noir" sketches.

I love the Bernie books

I really enjoy the Burglar series. Lawrence Block writes with a sense of humor that has me laughing out loud! The audio recording was great, with different voices. Although sometimes the reader said something in the wrong voice, overall it was very well done.

Not Block’s best in the Buglar series

It may have been the narrator but Frank Muller just doesn’t ring true. Richard Ferrone will always be Barney’s in my mind. It was just off to be. There are better ones in Block’s Burglar series. I have listened to them all in order and enjoyed everyone. I was disappointed in this one.

Bernie the Burglar

I love this series, and this book in particular is my favorite. I believe this is the only book in this series read by Frank Muller. He does a wonderful job with different voices and accents of the characters. Mr. Block, please write more.

Worst in the Series

I am a very big fan of the Rhodenbarr series. Unfortunately this one does
not live up to the quality of the other books or short stories.

The story is muddled at best - unnecessary side bars, overly long paragraphs,
and dialogue more like speeches. The characters are cardboard cutouts and
you just don't care about them. The give and take between Bernie and Carolyn
is missing. Curiously Bernie's nemesis cop comes out sounding OK this time
around. The book is a tedious read and when I first read it, I was pleased that
it finally ended. This time I just could not finish it Time did not help.

new narrator, still good

Muller is a good narrator. A bit slow but I set my reading speed to 1.20 and it was perfect.

The story was a bit sad but the list of eccentric characters was long which made for interesting listening/reading.

classic Bernie Rhodenbarr

A different narrator was a bit difficult at first (Carolyn seems to be the lovechild of Rita Rudner and Snagglepuss), but the story is superb as always and the plot satisfyingly complex.
A splendid way to spend a January Saturday.

Burglar is fast

I do like these stories although prefer the first one better. Fast talking and clever.
Bernie is a hoot.
