Publisher's summary

The long-awaited first book by the founder of the enormously popular Bullet Journal® organizational system.

For years Ryder Carroll tried countless organizing systems, Online and off, but none of them fit the way his mind worked. Out of sheer necessity, he developed a method called the Bullet Journal that helped him become consistently focused and effective. When he started sharing his system with friends who faced similar challenges, it went viral. Just a few years later, to his astonishment, Bullet Journaling is a global movement.

The Bullet Journal Method is about much more than organizing your notes and to-do lists. It's about what Carroll calls "intentional living": weeding out distractions and focusing your time and energy in pursuit of what's truly meaningful, in both your work and your personal life. It's about spending more time with what you care about, by working on fewer things. His new book shows you how to...

  • Track the past: Using nothing more than a pen and paper, create a clear and comprehensive record of your thoughts.
  • Order the present: Find daily calm by tackling your to-do list in a more mindful, systematic, and productive way.
  • Design the future: Transform your vague curiosities into meaningful goals, and then break those goals into manageable action steps that lead to big change.

Carroll wrote this book for frustrated list-makers, overwhelmed multitaskers, and creatives who need some structure. Whether you've used a Bullet Journal for years or have never seen one before, The Bullet Journal Method will help you go from passenger to pilot of your own life.

“Ryder has done an extraordinary job in sharing a comprehensive and hands-on methodology to implement the powerful practice of externalizing our thinking. This book is a great treatise and manual for freeing and directing our consciousness, with lots of tips about how to play in that big and wonderful game.” (David Allen, author of Getting Things Done)

"Bullet journaling is one of the most elegant and effective productivity systems I've ever encountered. It will not only help you get more organized but will also help you become a better person. I highly recommend this book (and the method it details) for anyone looking to get more out of life." (Cal Newport, author of Deep Work)

"Whether you are an avid journaler or have always wanted to explore the benefits of journaling, The Bullet Journal Method simplifies the power of putting pen to paper and will undoubtedly transform your life, in more ways than you can imagine.” (Hal Elrod, author of The Miracle Morning)

Great audiobook

Great audiobook, I’m doing BUJO for three days and it’s perfect. The only sorry I have about this book that there is no audiable narration.
I’m highly recommend.

Serendipitous

The book I didn't know I needed for more than just a how- to on this organizational tool. There is some well placed humor amidst the life-coaching style wisdom that kept me intrigued enough to listen through to the end. I feared this instructional book would read more like one of the boring college tomes were used to, but was pleased to discover the great was unfounded. The only thing I think could improve the read is only the voice to be a tad more dynamic, but he has a timber that's very easy to listen to. Looking forward to learning more online and with the companion app.

Nice companion

Glad he included PDF files. While I like his voice and cadence, he sounds very monotone. But, if you want to listen to something before you go to sleep, this is a nice choice.

Life changer

You can tell Ryder Carroll put a ton of time, energy, study, and reflection into this book. So much more than just a method. Inspirational quotes, motivating stories, and different philosophies abound here. I read a review that thought this book was too long and in-depth. It is long with lots of great ideas but you could jump into any chapter and start your BuJo journey immediately. Most practical book I have ever read. I will probably join the online community

Excellent audio adaptation and read by the author.

The book itself is well structured and gets to the point by being both a reference and a beginner’s guide (I’m a beginner). Ryder arranges the book into sections that group chapters together. Each section, in turn, explains the why (bullet journal at all), the what (to do in your journal), and the how (to journal effectively). The books aims to show us how to make this a practice with intent that yields rewards, big and small, in the now and for the long haul.

I actually purchased a print copy — part of the collector’s set, which includes an edition one Bullet Journal — and by page 50, it suddenly dawned on me that this book might be on Audible. One credit and three minutes later, I happily started over, this time with Ryder’s steady, measured voice in my ear.

I love it when authors read their own books, and hearing Ryder’s voice let me live the fantasy that he’s pesonally explaining his journaling method to me directly, just like the friend he took under his wing when she got bogged down in the myriad tasks of planning her own wedding. My partner noted his reading was a bit flat and lacked the inflection we might get from a professional voice actor, but I don’t care; his style feels genuine.

I only ding Ryder’s reading performance by one star. That’s an honest assessment so don’t take it as punishment, Ryder. :) I’m sure an actor could make a “better” performance, but I’d much rather hear it from the author if they have a decent speaking voice and a comfortable cadence, and Ryder does. For context, I’d likely give myself two or three stars.

Naturally, there’s quite a bit of visuals to this book, but you won’t miss out at all thanks to the accompanying PDF that includes pages identical to those in the physical book. The audio adaptation of the book is superb such that you, the listener, don’t miss out on anything in the textg either. As I followed along with my print copy, I often noted with wry smiles, the small but effective touches Ryder (and the production staff) applied to the audio version. Well done!

Bullet Journal user must read

Wish I would have read or listened to this when I first started. There are more than a few golden nuggets in there. Ryder’s narration was superb as well and made it very easy to listen.

Really Worthwhile

I really enjoyed the perspective this book brought to journaling, a hobby/task that I’ve been trying to utilize for years. It shows true benefits, as well as numerous practicalities and offers a more flowing, moving experience rather than the standard rigidity that I’ve previously experienced in more common journaling styles. I hopes this helps me because I’ve honestly come to believe in it. Thank you!
