Publisher's summary

The fourth novel in the acclaimed cult-favorite series starring necromancer Johannes Cabal

Horst Cabal has risen from the dead - again.

Horst, the most affable vampire one is ever likely to meet, is resurrected by an occult conspiracy that wants him as a general in a monstrous army. Their plan is to create a country of horrors, a supernatural homeland. As Horst sees the lengths to which they are prepared to go and the evil they cultivate, he realizes that he cannot fight them alone. What he really needs on his side is a sarcastic, amoral, heavily armed necromancer.

As luck would have it, this exactly describes his brother.

An excellent fourth installment.

Jonathan L Howard remains a delight to listen to, a delight somewhat hampered by the reader's tendency to mispronounce words.

Worth 10 stars

Either there needs to be an option for elite authors like Howard to be rated higher than 5 stars or we all should drop our 5 star reviews for other authors to 3. He’s that good.

Full of action and tales of...

A most excellent addition to the ongoing adventures of Herr Johannes Cabal. It ties well into earlier stories and leaves plenty of room for further explorations of Herr Cabal and associates, and antagonists.

I can never get enough!

This was wonderful I have to say, it's potentially my favorite in the series with all of the humor I've come to love of the series and all of the semi-horror.
I especially like the way the author ended the story with his notes and epilogues, and it has to be said that the reader (Nicholas Guy Smith) has done an excellent job of bringing the whole varied cast of characters to life.

Necro fun

A comedic series about a necromancer written by an author with a penchant for lovecraft

Better than the last two

Half of the book is from the perspective of Horsch Cabal, which is awesome. I love Johannes as a character, but he can be terribly unrelatable and ridiculous at times, and his brother acts as a perfect foil against him, drawing out the best of both. The last two books lacked a little something that was present in the first book. This one brought it back!

For anyone disappointed with the last book like I was, give this one a go before you drop the series. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it was better that the first one, but it wasn’t worse either... About equally as good I would say.

I gave the performer three stars because there are many noticeable stints where he sounded like he was reading from a REALLY dull textbook. He provided no intonation or inflection for certain lines that were supposed to be sarcastic or funny and no darkness in places that were clearly supposed to be scary or foreboding. This dullness was not consistent, certainly there were many parts that were good too, which is why I don’t give lower. He did many of the accents very well, too. He has a very impressive range of accents he can do. It did irritate me, however, that while at first very good, the accents disappeared over time. Johannes, for instance, sounds very german in the interludes of Horsch’s story but as second part of the story continues, he just sounds like an arrogant British person. That isn’t a problem in itself, but I like consistency.

Best of the series, I think!

Chuckling repeatedly in a silent office alone at work... I may have worried a few people

Delightful mix of scifi, horror, and humor

A very British sense of humor and some interesting twists on various horror tropes. A worthwhile series.
