This is the way the world ends, for the last time. The season of endings grows darker, as civilization fades into the long cold night. Essun - once Damaya, once Syenite, now avenger - has found shelter, but not her daughter. Instead there is Alabaster Tenring, destroyer of the world, with a request. But if Essun does what he asks, it would seal the fate of the Stillness forever. Far away, her daughter Nassun is growing in power - and her choices will break the world.

Story
This is the way the world ends. For the last time. A season of endings has begun. It starts with the great, red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal and long-dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

All I want for Christmas is a New NK Jemisin Book
I have only one other author that excites me as NK does, that's Anne Bishop, her Black Jewels Trilogy has always been my all time favorite books. These two authors never put fluff into their books. Every word, every character serves a purpose. Nothing is ever just thrown in to fill the pages to meet a publishers dead line. Soooo hopefully if you've never read her, you will give her a chance.

another great series by this author
This is the third series by this author that I've listen to on audiobook. The first series was great, second I got bored and gave up on, but the broken kingdoms is probably my favorite. you have to be patient as the story starts out slow but the results are worth the wait. characters are given time to develop slowly and the World building is awesome.

this one could be skipped
I was so disappointed in this book, starting with names that aren't even pronounced the same as in the previous books. This one lends nothing to the story, the characters aren't particularly likable/enjoyable, and I found myself frequently bored. Skip this one - I returned it.

An amazing book
N. Jemisin is a amazing science fiction/fantasy writer. She intermingles deep science in an explainable way mixed with a wonderful fantasy world that is very realistic in that it could even be our planet 100’s even 1000’s of years in the fourrure. Casaunsra Freeman is perfect for this series. I looked up her other books she’s narrated because she is that good.

Great sequel & stand-alone story
I enjoyed more than the first. Told from a very micro-perspective that doesn't really tie to the title. Jemisin does a good job wrapping it up as well. Looking forward to the next in the series.
