Publisher's Summary

Rising from her humble beginnings as a lost orphan, Lia is summoned to be Muirwood Abbey’s protector and special guardian for Ellowyn Demont, the lost heir of the fallen kingdom of Pry-Ree. After the death of the ruthless king at the battle of Winterrowd, the great Aldermaston and Abbey leader calls on Lia to use her mystical talents to save Muirwood from two new threats - a vengeful queen accusing the Abbey of her husband’s death and a deadly plague threatening to destroy the land.

Amidst the turmoil, a battle ensues, and soon Lia learns the world’s magic has begun to falter. As a blanket of dread envelops the Abbey, hopes are tested, and Lia will be forced to come to terms with a secret that will change her life forever.

the fun continues in a fast moving fantasy

Narration is very well performed, with great voice variation between players. Keeps a good story moving with excitement that is not over played.

Love it

I'm an over the road truck and listen to audio books to keep me rolling. I drove 8 straight hours while listening to this book! I love the narrator, she brings the story to life... I've listened to this entire series and now I'm listening to "The covenant of Muirwood" series..

Fabulous!!!

So rich and deeply interwoven with symbolism and meaning. I very much appreciated the author's depth of knowledge and education into historic and legendary stories and texts so that he could draw from them inspiration and also make direct connections with their ideas and traditions. Great story, wonderfully told!!!

Weak heroine

A good story frustrated by a weak heroine. Story ever giving long expositions of her emotional reactions and thoughts. She cries constantly, and pathetically pines for a man who treats her like a dishrag. Same basic story could have been made much better if she had a little more toughness in dealing with emotional issues. As it is, you just want to throttle her and yell, "Show a little backbone, will ya?"

Even better than the first!!

This second installment of the Muirwood series is even better than the first one! It is a little longer, and so the characters and story line could be expanded a little bit. I love the world that Wheeler has created here. It's not the deepest and most complete world ever created by fantasy writers, but what is there is very endearing and enjoyable. The characters are complete and exciting, and the plot moves along very nicely. There is never a dull or "bridge" section of the book. Trying to get a reader from one idea to the next. Everything that is in this book is there for a purpose and integral to the story. Very well thought out and executed. Great book!

great middle book in this trilogy

I think the only negative thing I had to say about this one is that the two important conversations between Lia and Colvin did 180's.
The biblical themes were kept to a minimum and I really enjoyed the story. I wish the writing that showed up here was also in the third book.

Blight of Muirwood

I very much so enjoyed this story.
The overall experience was great and a lot played out as I hoped, which gave me more happiness as it went, as is common when things go as you feel they should.
I liked the power base that this book showed, rather than some weakness that gets by due to timidity not being trampled on.

Rudd’s performance was great and fun.

Annoying Characters

I like character based stories, and in the first book in this series, I began to like the main character of Lia. She showed a spark of courage and intelligence, that seemed to disappear in this the second book. She started to become just another simpering, brainless fluff head, who could only function if she could secure the affection of the main male character, Colvin the petty minded and shallow. I gave the story two stars only because the setting was well done. I won't be listening to book three. Nor will I waste credits on the second Muirwood series. I will give credit to Kate Rudd, whose narration was the only thing that kept me listening for as long as I did. I'm disappointed, as I had enjoyed the first book, and was hoping it would fulfil the promise it hinted at. It was not to be.

Great pace, a worthy sequel

Really enjoyed this installment, suspenseful but still keeps the story moving. The main characters relationships are but frustrating at first but that is resolved well, so stick with it.
