Publisher's summary

Downton Abbey meets Agatha Christie with a touch of Wodehouse and a dog of distinction.

Who killed Sir Crispin Gibbons? A wedding invitation and news of mischief that could be murder takes Lennox to the Earl of Bloxford's country estate. He, soon, finds himself in a world of purloined artworks, forgeries, and a priceless Bloxford beauty.

But who are the Bloxford beauties? And why are they the focal point around which death swirls?

Lennox must confront life-long friends, unscrupulous artists, and dealers to finally unravel a plot so complex that even his old adversary, Chief Inspector Swift of Scotland Yard, is perplexed.

A Very Good Story

This story was well written and the characters were believable. We will be looking for more books by this author.

Most enjoyable discovery and production

Both the author and narrator are new to me, but each deliver absolutely top tier work. If you’re looking for a genuinely cosy British country house murder mystery - a clever whodunnit with a colorful cast of characters, wry, sophisticated humor, and a dash of welcome depth - Menuhin is your author. Dewhurst-Phillips’ voice acting is spectacular. And he manages to pull off a variety of posh, regional, and foreign accents with ease and authenticity. I went directly from the first in the series to this book and am headed to begin the third right now.

Please, no more barking dogs.

The story was interesting. I’ll continue listening if there are more in the series.
I was hoping that the narrator had improved after the first book. He should focus less on barking like a dog and work on his women’s voices. They were over the top, even for a period piece.

Good mystery series

The beginning of this book 📖 was a bit slow to get started, but after getting through that, I truly enjoyed book 2! On to book 3 🤓

Better than first

The first book in this series was a bit slow! This one was fun. Although slightly obvious it was fun and the characters came alive much more than in book 1. Looking forward to the 3rd in series
