Publisher's summary

Presenting Edgar Award-winning editor Otto Penzler's latest anthology, The Big Book of Sherlock Holmes Stories, the largest collection of Sherlockian tales ever.

Arguably no other character in history has been so enduringly popular as Sherlock Holmes. From his first appearance in Arthur Conan Doyle's 1887 novella A Study in Scarlet, fans have loved reading and listening about him - and writers have loved writing about him. Here, Otto Penzler collects 83 wonderful stories about Holmes and Dr. John Watson, the majority of which will be new to listeners. Inside this audio are tales by acclaimed Sherlockians Leslie S. Klinger, Laurie R. King, Lyndsay Faye, and Daniel Stashower; pastiches by literary luminaries both classic (Kenneth Millar, P. G. Wodehouse, Dorothy B. Hughes) and current (Anne Perry, Stephen King, Neil Gaiman); and parodies by Conan Doyle's contemporaries James M. Barrie, O. Henry, and August Derleth.

LAME

What disappointed you about The Big Book of Sherlock Holmes Stories?

Stories definitely not up to Arthur Conan Doyle quality.

"Full Cast" seems to mean each little tale is read solo by a different person who must have been really hard up to participate in this lagniappe. Occasionally two or three actors, but mostly not.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not this

What didn’t you like about Nicholas Guy Smith and full cast ’s performance?

The performances could not overcome the thudding dullness of the stories.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Big Book of Sherlock Holmes Stories?

Most of them

Any additional comments?

Glad I got it for 1 credit rather than $60

Loved it!!!!

I am not a Sherlockian, however I have listened to all of the original Sherlock Holmes stories, and most anything else Sherlock Holmes that I can find. Some are great, some are odd, and some terrible. As long as you are not expecting the original Sherlock stories, this collection is fantastic. I appreciate the time it must have taken to put this together. Some of the stories are fantastic, and some of the parodies are really funny. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing, and wish I wasn't done listening to it. I will listen to it again sometime in the future.

too much crap

the good stories are good and the paradies are awful. would be much better with only the good stories. or at least broken up so you can easily skip the bad ones

Too much crap...

...but there are some wonderful stories in here once you sift through the garbage. When you hear lines like "...eh, wot?" "Jolly good, ol' chap!" and "Splllendid!" you know you're in for a rough ride.

the Big Book of sherlock Holmes stories

The lists of so many authors becomes confusing after a while. The stories are well written and true to sherlock' s character. Take leisurely time when being leisurely.

Disappointed

The stories weren't all that great and I really love Holmes pastiches. I have tried to listen to it twice and it's just so boring. Wish I could return it.

Not for ME.

I listened to part of it but the stories were not as interesting to me as the regular Sherlock Holmes stories.

Enjoyed every moment!

Loved the narration. Loved the variety of stories. I find the diverse stories involving the adventures of Holmes and Watson fascinating. Even the short parodies are interesting. I may be biased as I seem to love all things Sherlock. The narration by Nicholas Guy Smith was excellent. Smart is the new sexy. An excellent addition to anyone's collection.
