Publisher's Summary

Danny Goldstein has always lived in the shadow of his identical twin brother Sam. Amazing book :)

I loved this book. I loved the relationship between Danny and every other character, and how those relationships help him find himself. I am a mother of twins and I see the close relationship talked about in this book everyday with them. And I know how one would be just as lost without the other. This is an amazing read and listen. I highly recommend it.

If you liked Aristotle and Dante

If you could sum up The Before Now and After Then in three words, what would they be?

We need love

What other book might you compare The Before Now and After Then to and why?

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

What about Matt Hays’s performance did you like?

Very pleasant to listen to. The change in voices from character to character is more subtle than distinctive.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. It's the only book I've listened to twice in a row.

Any additional comments?

I wish I could find more like it. Please offer suggestions if you can.

Excellent YA book that is not just for kids

A very moving book about love and loss and identity. Outstanding narration. Both the book and the narration are far above the standard of most of the audiobooks that are rate 4 stars and above. Don't miss this one.

A Must Read

Would you listen to The Before Now and After Then again? Why?

Absolutely. It perfectly captured my attention and kept me wanting more. Couldn't wait to find out what happened next!

What other book might you compare The Before Now and After Then to and why?

I would compare this book to "Perks of Being a Wallflower" because it is the perfect teenage roller-coaster ride of emotions. I felt like i was truly experiencing what the characters went through.

What does Matt Hays bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice is relaxing and soothing.

Love! 😍🤓

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I feel that the characters were fully developed. As a new therapist reading this book, I found myself analyzing a lot of what was going on simultaneously to listening. I feel that the overall story is timeless, minus the fact that text messaging makes it 2000's. There were times I did not enjoy how the narrator read some pieces, it just felt off. The book kept me interested and reminded me why I need to listen to more fiction, and less work related books!!

A Stand Out Title!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Before Now and After Then to be better than the print version?

Sometimes I prefer it when I read and hear the voice in my head reading aloud the book but sometimes you just need someone else to do it to enjoy it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Before Now and After Then?

The weekend of Danny & Rusty's anniversary when they shared many many sweet moments and had the best time together & also the aftermath. There was such a shift that my stomach fell when it happened.

What does Matt Hays bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I haven't listened to many audio books but from what I've found most of them are read in inflectionless voices like the narrator is just reading the book but Matt Hays brought the characters to life. He injected emotion into them and just made them more real. Especially Danny because he's bringing Danny to life at the same time that Danny is finding himself in the book and coming to life himself.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I have to choose one!? Well, I don't want to spoil anything but I would choose the moment Danny & Rusty met. A chance meeting on the curb of their school and a piece of gum offered started something epic and sweet.

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Really and truly. I only hope that the author writes more in the same vein. Maybe the next one could be about Uncle Alex and Neal?

Brilliant YA novel

An amazing novel by an amazing guy. Peter Monn is one of my favourite youtube vloggers, so to be honest I didn't have high hopes for the book. But wow, I was blown away by how great this book is. It's very immersive and I couldn't stop listening. I was taken back to my time at school and the writing was so descriptive and portrayed this story of finding oneself, falling in love and coming of age perfectly. I will be buying for younger members of my family, as these types of YA novels are important. Highly recommended.
