Publisher's Summary

A full-length standalone romantic comedy from USA TODAY best-selling author R.S. Grey.

Beau Fortier starred in most of my cringe-worthy teenage fantasies. I met him when I was a junior in high school, a time that revolved exclusively around bad hair, failed forays into flirting, and scientific inquiries into which brand of toilet paper worked best for stuffing bras.

That is, until Beau moved into the small guest house just beyond my bedroom window. A 24-year-old law student at Tulane, Beau was as mysterious to me as second base (both in baseball and in the bedroom). He was older. Intimidating. Hot. Boys my age had chicken legs and chubby cheeks. Beau had calloused hands and a jaw cut from steel.

Our interactions were scarce - mostly involving slight stalking on my end - and yet deep down, I desperately hoped he saw me as more of a potential lover than a lovesick loser. Turns out, I was fooling myself. My fragile ego learned that lesson the hard way.

Now, 10 years later, we're both back in New Orleans, and guess who suddenly can't take his eyes off little ol' me. My old friend, Mr. Fortier. But things have changed. I'm older now - poised and confident. My ego wears a bulletproof vest. The butterflies that once filled my stomach have all perished. When I was a teenager, Beau warned me to guard my heart. Let's hope he knows how to guard his.

A great Romantic Comedy

How fun was this book?! This was a hilarious romantic comedy set in New Orleans that transitions from the past to the present. There is a bit of a forbidden feel when Beau and Lauren initially meet because she is still in high school and he is a twenty odd year old law student. Lauren has a huge crush on Beau and wow is this girl bold. She threw herself at him, quite aggressively I may add but Beau was the perfect gentleman.

The voice of Lauren was ridiculously funny. She was a privileged private school girl with concerns of pool parties and boys sending instant messages to her. The smallest of things were life altering events to her. I don't know why it was so much fun to be inside the head of this teenage girl but it was just so funny! She was quirky and awkward and had such a bubbly personality.

After a huge natural disaster, Lauren and Beau get separated but then reunite when Lauren moves back home 10 years later. Now with no barriers, Beau is focused on pursuing Lauren. The voice of Beau was smooth, with full on southern charm. He was sexy and completely swoon worthy! He has also come a long way and achieved so much as a successful lawyer and businessman. Lauren feels slightly burned from his apparent lack of interest years ago and tries to resist his charms but it's futile and she knows it. There were a few great moments of sexiness and their chemistry was palpable.

This was a great love story with huge LOL moments that had me constantly laughing or smiling while listening to this book. A great fun read!

squeeeee JOE ARDEN

Joe Arden is fast becoming one of my favorite narrators! And this is the second book he's done with R.S. Grey, so I knew I needed to get it right away. Perfect pairing. Luci Christian's narration is good too, especially in this book where she had to be "highschool age" for the first bit and then an adult later on. She has good comedic timing as well!

The story itself was exactly what I expect from an R.S. Grey book: funny, sweet, sexy, and did I mention funny? She seriously always has be lol-ing. This is why I particularly like listening to her audios; because I walk around like a grinning lunatic, bursting into random laughter around silent strangers. It's perfect.

Beau and Lauren's love felt so real! I can really relate to being an awkward AF teenager with an inappropriate crush on an older guy. I liked that she didn't go taboo and cross any lines there; the time jump allowed both characters to mature and change a bit, too. A much as I identified with Lauren, I just friggin LOVED Beau. Like, for real, does this man exist somewhere out in the wild? Because I would like to find him. Next book-boyfriend for sure.

Well Let’s See..

So the narration was great. Joe Arden has a totally sexy, I could listen to him read the phonebook kind of voice. Luci Christian has an adorable voice and their banter along with her cuteness works well for a story about a young girl/grown up girl’s crush. The actual STORY, however, well it was cute enough, I guess, but it left me a little wanting, I guess. The sex scenes were mediocre at best and very anticlimactic, no pun intended. It got a bit hard to take at times with Lauren’s lack of self esteem, holding back for so long crap, and could have been maybe 5 chapters shorter. It wasn’t a bad book, I did finish it, but it won’t make it on my, “boy I really loved this one” list. I just don’t get all the rave reviews and trust me, I’m a total romance story kind of girl.

Aggressor on the Rise

This story paints the male lead as a controlling aggressor and the female lead as an insecure ditz who is incapable of making her own decisions.

In the first half of the book I had to check that it was actually a comedy. most of the giggles are in the last few hours but the story is great! characters were well built, plot swivels, didn't want to turn it off. please write more comedies Grey, I'm running out!

DNF

I love R.S.G books but...... this one just wasn’t it for me. The will she won’t she just went on for way too long. Also, I don’t like how insecure Lauren is I thought she was going to grow out of the ditzy 17-year-old but NOPE. And Rose is a terrible friend.
Fell into my DNF
Joe and Luci did fantastic tho!

One of my favorites by R.S. Grey!

I always read reviews that say it’s laugh out loud funny and they rarely are... this is!! The combo of story and narration are so great. I read it first but like the audible version better... again narration is perfect especially by Luci!!

I’ve read most of R.S. Greys books and this one won’t disappoint! Snarky, sarcastic and vulnerable wrapped up in a Beau. See what I did there? :)

Run, don’t walk, to listen to this one.

Cute, flirty story, slow-burn romance

I usually, thoroughly, most definitely enjoy R.S. Grey's books! They are always my go-to whenever I need my day brightened or have a little laugh in the middle of the work day. This story, though, didn't capture me as much as the others did. Maybe the timeline of the romance was too slow for me. Don't get me wrong, there were some pretty funny parts as to be expected from Grey. However, the pace didn't cut out for me.

Beau was pretty much a southern gentleman that most women adore and drool over. Lauren and her parents seem to be the most down-to-earth, thoughtful individuals in their high society. They connected easily and were still fond of each other even after butting heads. I don't think their age difference was THAT big of a deal, though...

LOVE Joe Arden (who doesn't) and Luci Christian (now one of my favs) narrated wonderfully. Their performance speaks for itself. No need to say more.

Too Adorable

I thought this book was adorable. Luci made Lauren come to life perfectly. I don’t think this book would’ve been as fun reading it as to listening to it narrated by Joe and Luci. Oh my goodness, Joe could read the newspaper and I’d swoon over him. He’s my favorite.

Worth persisting

The second half of the book really picks up and redeems the first half, which I found quite boring
