Publisher's Summary

When 30-year-old Julia, mourning the death of her husband, decides to sell the Santa Cruz beach house they owned together, she sets in motion a final summer that will change the lives of all the families who rent it year after year. Teenaged Chris discovers the bittersweet joy of first love. Maggie and Joe, married sixty-five years, courageously face a separation that even their devotion cannot prevent. good book...not so much for narrator

I really enjoyed this story, but the narrator is so monotone much of the time. I would not listen to another book by this narrator. at times I swore it was a computerized voice.

Narration is terrible

The story was all right ,but the narrator was just terrible. The story was performed with little inflection in the voice and all the men’s parts were so monotoned they reminded me of Goliath on the old Sunday Morning Davey and Goliath. I was looking forward to listening to three of the books but I just can’t . It’s that bad. Maybe I’ll read them if I get a chance.

Captivating story, painful narration

The stories were interesting, having rented beach houses for vacations myself. But I nearly gave up on it because of the deadpan narration. Her male characters sounded like dolts. And for all of her painfully clear pronunciation, she has a bad habit of dropping or contracting the “t” that comes near the end of words. (Some sort of speech impediment thing.) For example, “certain” is pronounced as cer-in. Important becomes “impor-ent.” My ear picks it up every time. So annoying.

Not sure I can handle another book since it’s the same narrator. Too bad. These should be re-released with a better reader.

Really interesting introducing new guests

I really enjoyed this book. I was thrown for a minute when the characters changed but loved it. Who does not want to be loved by Maggie and Joe?

Horrible Narrator!

What did you like best about The Beach House? What did you like least?

The characters were interesting but a bit dated and old fashioned.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Predictable. It all ended very neatly, nothing unexpected. A few twists and turns would have added interest.

Would you be willing to try another one of Joell A. Jacob’s performances?

Absolutely not! She over pronounces every syllable and makes the characters dialogue sound stilted and very unbelievable. Nobody talks like that! I would have ordered the sequels if they were performed by someone else.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

A better performer reading it.

Any additional comments?

The story was good enough that I would consider reading the sequels but absolutely wouldn't listen to this performer again.

Loved loved loved this story!!! Fab beach read!!

What made the experience of listening to The Beach House the most enjoyable?

It was at the beach; had very interesting characters and story line was awesome! It's was a representation of life and I think when at the beach people relax and emotions are more easily seen.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the entire story! Each had their unique qualities drawing me completely in. I knew this would be a great audio and I am very glad Georgia's books are coming in audio. This is my first written by her and I have the second ready to go! Maggie and Joe are favorites and their cat Josie.

What about Joell A. Jacob’s performance did you like?

They bring the families to real life. I felt like I knew every person.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could have had I had the time. I enjoyed this book very much!

Any additional comments?

I love the beach but I also love real life relationships and the troubles and solutions that come with working them out! I am excited to have Georgia Bockoven's books in audio! Can't wait for the second..downloaded and ready to go. Yes, I would listen to this again.
