Publisher's Summary

Light years from home, science officer Lieutenant Eva La Croix and her all-female exploration team land on a planet they believe is a perfect substitute for the dying earth. Set upon by huge alien hunters, Eva is captured by the barbarian leader. Tossed over his shoulder, she is carried back to camp, tethered to his bed, and claimed as his own.

In spite of her fear, she is captivated by the gorgeous, human-like male with his long, gleaming, black hair; smooth bronze skin; and glimmering, golden eyes. Expecting her complete compliance, he strips her for an intimate and very thorough inspection. Horrified, Eva protests, but she quickly learns he is in complete command and resistance will be met with swift consequences, including a trip over his knee for a bare-bottom spanking.

Deemed compatible, Eva and her teammates are whisked away to an alien world where they are mated to these powerful, dominant men. While pampered and protected, the women are expected to submit to their mate's authority and breed their young.

Can Eva learn to adapt to their unusual beliefs and old-fashioned ways? Will she sacrifice her independence and surrender to this dynamic, all-consuming, highly sexual male who has conquered her body and, perhaps, her heart? Or when escape is imminent, will she flee with the others, forever leaving him behind and the rampant desire that now surges through her blood for her compelling barbarian?

Please note: The Barbarian's Captive is an erotic romance audiobook containing elements of BDSM, spanking, and sexual scenes. If this subject matter is offensive, please do not buy this book.

Bondage w/ overly done dominince... NO

Eww, just eww. I know this is supposed to be a paranormal read, but I absolutely hate it when authors write about men and woman romanticizing some form of slavery. That shit is not sexy when done over and over again and I see this is a constant for Maddie Taylor's novels. This is my second novel from her done this way, in a totally different scene, where the man basically romanticizes how much he's in charge and going to assert his dominance by spanking a grown ass woman like a child. This can be done well if the writer doesn't have to depend on it so dame often just to forward a plot, It's insulting and frankly boring. Don't get me start on the narrators here. Yeah, they're both awful. Read the sample of this and you'll see what I mean. Its like story time at the library with BOTH narrators. Yawn and gag, they are so emotionless and boring combining with the disappointing story. I have no idea why this is rated so high, maybe because those who enjoy this "over dominance" style enjoy that kind of read overall, but this is a return for me.

Good

This book was enjoyable. I don't regret the purchase. That being said, it was just good...not great, or fantastic. This is one that though I don't regret the purchase, I more than likely won't listen again. There are books in this genre that I have purchased, that are so good that I will listen over and over, or read over and over. This just isn't one of those.

Not my cup of tea!

the narration is drawl and the story and characters development make is nonexistent. I could rewrite the whole plot in a few sentences. If the author had invested more time in her characters then it might made a difference. don't waste time and money unless you want something that can be surmised as kidnapping sex tantrums bandage and Stockholm syndrome.

🌻3 1/2 ⭐️, Sexy Alien Adventure!🌻

🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻V from Kansas🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Overall, I enjoyed this story. However, there were a few instances that rang false, to me.

🌻🌻🌻🌻Spoiler Alert, this section!🌻🌻🌻🌻

The wise leader, of these people, neglects to educate his mate about the laws and also the most important details, about their mating process. Then, when she is shot and abducted , against her will, her eventual rescue and return ends up with her receiving 40 lashes, as punishment. First, I don’t think a leader would purposely withhold the extent of the laws, from his mate, then state that “ignorance of the laws” is no excuse and then allow his mate to be punished for a crime she committed under duress?

Other than the details I mentioned in the previous section and some inconsistencies and errors that the author’s B reader apparently missed, ( I volunteer to be a B reader for you, Maddie) the story had an air of a D/s society. Of course, this goes totally against the grain of any feminist, but this is fantasy and romance and setting reality aside, for awhile, is the whole point, right? In conclusion, if a listener wants to set reality and politics aside for a sexy, Alien adventure, this book is for you!

A fun read

This was a fun and delicious escape. Both narrators were perfect for their storyline and I really enjoyed how the female narrator did all the female voices and the male did all the male voices

Great listen

I really enjoyed this story! It was a lot of fun and entertaining. There was a lot going on with this new world for our characters and the women had to learn how to adapt. I thought the story was well written and stayed true to characters personalities the entire time. There was plenty of action and intrigue to hold your attention the whole time. I loved the way that the narrators worked this story. I loved that it wasn't just chapter to chapter switching from male to female perspective but that each time a male spoke, the male narrator did and the same for the female. It really added to the story for me and made it come alive! I really really enjoyed this aspect of the audio book. It really made the story come alive for me.

Sensual and Erotic

Maddie Taylor sure knows how to write an erotic novel with a great story line. She also has wonderful character development. Kerr is a strong yet caring man, while Eva is strong and sassy. Both are sexually driven. We watch Eva as she struggles with her loyalty to the people on earth and her growing love for Kerr. She also questions Kerr's love for her. There are explosive sexual scenes. The aliens also practice domestic discipline, but Kerr never hurts Eva. The narrators do an outstanding job of portraying the characters personalities and emotions. They create voices that are perfect for the characters. I asked to receive this Audible book and voluntarily wrote this unbiased review. I highly recommend this Audible book.

Fantastic

I think that the story is really well done, and I love this entire series. Having dual narrators was a great idea with this story. It really brings the story to a new kind of life and is kind of a more intimate way of listening to the book than it would be if it were a singular narrator.

Great Story

I really enjoyed the story. I don’t normally do Alien type stories but this one had me so intrigued after the first couple of chapters, I couldn’t stop listening. The Audiobook was so well done, I got tingles.

Not everyone's cup of tea, I guess

I had to laugh when I read some pieces of the reviews that others wrote. I am not sure what they expected, but it is apparently not what they got. This book is about an alien race that treats women like they have no purpose in life but to kowtow to their mate and spit out babies. Since there are still cultures on this planet that feel that way I just rolled my eyes and figured at least the sex was good.

Eve and seven other women are captured while they are conducting scientific surveys on a planet they hope might be a place for the remaining population of the earth to relocate to. Apparently, there are very few men left on Earth and those that remain spend most of their fighting wars, go figure. Eva's ship consists of about three hundred females who are searching for an alternative place to live as the earth deteriorates.

Kerr and his fellow warriors are off-world on a hunt when they find the alien females. There planet's population is declining ever since an asteroid broke up and hit it when Kerr was a child. Since that time the birthrates have fallen and couples are matched by their chances of successfully producing offspring. This has evidently caused the men to lose the part of their brains that allows them to see women as equal to them. Instead, they are protected and punished if they happen to have a stray intelligent thought. The punishment normally consists of having their bottoms spanked, and they are not allowed to be harmed. The Primarians mate for life.

Of course, Eva is not of a mind to follow some man's orders just because he claims he is her mate. Whatever. She might not like the punishments she gets, but she does like the sex and there is lots of that to be had. She mainly seems to be concerned that the mate bond has not manifested itself in her like it has most of her fellow abductees. Kerr does not seem to be bothered by this, but it makes her feel inferior and afraid that he will eventually replace her. This is going to get her all kinds of trouble.

I was given a copy of this audiobook by the author. My review is voluntary.
