Publisher's Summary

Something is out there…watching…waiting.

It could be a mythical creature wreaking havoc on a Mystere hotel…or a malicious vandal. It's detective Tanner LeDoux's first case and - much to his chagrin - the hotel belongs to Josie Bettencourt, once the most popular girl in town and his unrequited love. A woman who now doesn't even recognize him. Josie's poor memory is Tanner's luck, however. He has a chance to be the strong, sexy hero who protects her and her hotel from mounting danger. Tanner's no believer in the old ways, but one stormy night, he sees something horrific he can't explain. And he knows, without a doubt, whatever lurks in Honey Island Swamp means to keep Josie from him forever!

PRONUNCIATION

I really enjoy Jana DeLeon’s books but the narrator’s pronunciation of local names and places makes me want to scream. For a small fee, I would be happy to give lessons in how to pronounce Louisiana names and places.

Disappointed

I have read just about all of Jana DeLeon’s books. Most on audible. I love the writing and characters are priceless. I like the narrators Johanna Parker and Cassandra Campbell but while listening to The Awakening narrated by Ginger Cornish. I had to stop it 5 minutes in. I couldn’t even concentrate on the story line because the narrator was so lifeless!! I had no idea what the main character was like or the rest for that matter. They were all lifeless. I stopped the audible, disappointed that I wasted a credit on the book. I’ll read the book instead.

So Lame!

It probably didn’t help that I had just finished listening to a really good book but this was pretty bad. The ending was Ok but if I had it on speaker and left the room I didn’t bother to rewind to review. Lost count on how many times he/she blew out a breath or sucked in a breath. The narrators male voices were not good.

Enjoyed

Nice story, great characters. Mystery was different. Mystere Parrish is not like the Miss Fortune series. There is no comedic hijinks. It's not as dark as the Shaye Archer series. There is a little romance and a continuing storyline from the previous two books. I love this author and look for her books. Narration was good. I liked the narrator's accent, voices and pacing
