Publisher's Summary
Jane Austen meets Lara Croft.
Beatrice Knight has enough to contend with: A zebra is dead on her lawn, her horse is possessed, and a gentleman has arrived with the temerity to propose to her. To top it off, her dead husband, Gideon, has absconded with an automaton, threatening to return for his wife. The wife in question, however, soon has other issues, for a killer has moved into town with a nasty habit of carving up the victims. As luck should dictate, who should be the next target but Mrs. Knight herself?
The Automaton's Wife is the second case in Society for Paranormals, in which a paranormal detective refuses to let danger, death, and unwanted suitors inconvenience her in the small town of Nairobi. Welcome to a cozy mystery series concerning Victorian etiquette, African mythology, and the search for a perfect spot of tea. If you enjoy historical mysteries, adore Victorian steampunk, appreciate British humor, or would love to experience adventure in colonial Africa, download The Automaton's Wife to start your supernatural safari now.

Funny, action-packed, and fantastic!
I love this audiobook so much! It is the most entertaining urban fantasy or cozy mystery that I have ever read. FYI, this series must be read in order, starting with Book 1, “The Ghosts of Tsavo.” This is better than Book 1, and I loved that audiobook. In “The Automaton's Wife”, the series really gets going, with action, humor, and revelations! In addition, the narrator did a perfect job, convincingly portraying a cast of characters and making the story even more exciting with excellent pacing. I was at the edge of my seat many times. This is a first-person memoir-like account of the fictional adventures of Beatrice Knight, intrepid undercover paranormal investigator in 1900 Nairobi, Kenya. African mythological creatures are real in this imaginative historical fiction. Bea's voice takes a few minutes to get accustomed to, but you will find that it sounds just right for this property, sarcastic, and outrageous character. I highly recommend this audiobook. #Clever #Funny #Magical #Quirky #Witty #Colonial #Victorian #Kenya #FemaleProtagonist #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

5/5 Charming, Witty, Weird
Summary: Bee’s back and she’s got her hands full. There’s murder and mayhem afoot and bigger crises like warding off would-be suitors.
Additional Comments:
- I think I’ve said it before: this is my brand of weird. That said, it’s probably not going to be everybody’s cup of tea. If you’re in the mood for a serious book, definitely wrong series.
- If you’re in the mood for fun and weird, definitely a great series to try.
- The series combines the charm of Alexander McCall Smith’s #1 Detective Agency with the random, wacky weirdness of Seth Graham Smith’s Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies.
- I’ve listened to a lot of audiobooks lately and these are always a light-hearted bit of escapism.
- The character has a few quirks that can come across as annoying, especially in the way she describes things. But overall, it’s still highly entertaining.
- I find the blurb a tad misleading after you’ve heard or read the story, but if you enjoyed the first story, I see no reason for you to dislike this one. If this is your introduction to the series, you might want to grab book one so you have some context.
Conclusion: Decent entry in an awesome series.

Charming, unique, captivating trip
I love Vered Ehsani's Society for Paranormal series. Book two picks up soon after book 1 and continues this delightful trip. It's kind of a female Sherlock Holmes investigating paranormal problems in turn of the century Africa. Unique and well-written. NOT a formula driven story, despite my reference to Sherlock. Vered writes in a style all her own which is very well done and quite intriguing. I've been hoping for book 3 to come out in audio but I've waited all I can. I just picked up the ebook version to continue my travels with Bea.

Victorian Paranormal
I enjoyed the performance of Alison Larkin in this book. I thought she did an excellent job with this cozy story. Set in the turn of the century Africa, the author did an excellent job with the imagery. The story moves along quite nice and has unexpected twists and unique characters. I have the first book in this series (Ghosts of Tsavo) which includes the same main character. This book is a standalone listen, and part of a series with the consistency of main character (Beatrice). I found the British humor to be fitting in the story and liked it. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and or publisher.

Steampunk Paranormal Story
Good story. It is the second in a series. For continuity I think it is better to read the first in the group. The story is set in Africa at the beginning of the 1900's.The Automaton's Wife is peppered with quirky characters and strange creatures. The weirdness makes the tale interesting.
The narration is great.

quite enjoyable
I do believe I enjoyed this more than the first. I'm not entirely sure if it was because it was a better book or because the addition of a truly wonderful narrator (Alison Larkin) made the audio experience more fulfilling than reading it. I liked book one, but I really liked this one.
As before, I found Beatrice witty and self-reliant. I liked the tension between her and My. Timmons, though it's much downplayed here and the mystery held its own. I did think it wrapped up a little too quickly and Larkin's insistence on saying Zeebra (American), instead of zebra, in the English style irked me. But all in all, I look forward to continuing the series.
Note: I received a copy for the purpose of review. But it was my choice to read (listen) and review it.

It really fits into its time period.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
This book was very well written and narrated. Sometimes when people write these kinds of story you can tell that they don't have a feeling for the literature of the time. That is not the case here. I loved the concept and the story ark.
I usually listen to books while I'm at work and I couldn't multi-task while listening to this one. Pay attention and enjoy.

I received this book free from ebalst and the author and publisher, and this is my unbiased opion. I wasn't sure at first about the story I missed the first book, but I was able to get into the story quickly. it is very Victorian, which added to the characters. I loved it.
