Documentarian and scholar Dr. Linda Garcia Merchant takes time to speak with her good friend Dr. Erika Abad about No Es Facil, which was featured in 'Two Cultures, One Family." She reflects on her career-long investment in documenting Chicana experiences and what inspired her to build a career around documenting the history of women who were part of the National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC), Chicana Caucus of the NWPC from 1977 to 1979, which her mother, Ruth "Rhea" Mojica Hammer, was a key figure.

Two Cultures, One Family

During Kaitlyn Jones's June 2022 Rogers Art Loft Residency, she and Erika Abad discussed the role of rest and grief on the way to liberation. Kaitlyn's mom, Sharon, was at the closing exhibit; they take time to discuss the role of family in Jones's work and Sharon's insights into encouraging her daughter's creative practice.

Noel Garcia and Sarah Ritch talk with Dr. Erika Abad about their creative home and its influence on Garcia's career. Garcia then reflects on the relationship between her formal training and what she learned from home in the evolution of her creative career. Garcia's Cigarettes were featured in "Two Cultures, One Family."

Abad, after years of writing and interviewing artists, reflects on what she/they learned about balancing higher ed and guest curator work as she transitioned from being Faculty-in-Residence at UNLV to Assistant Prof of Communications.
