Publisher's Summary

A Pretty Woman tale turns deadly in this provocative tale of sex, obsession, and murder from the best-selling author of The Party.

Natalie, an art student in New York City, is struggling to pay her bills when a friend makes a suggestion: Why not find a sugar daddy - a wealthy, older man who will pay her for dates, and a monthly allowance. All that’s required is to look pretty. Sexual favours are optional.

Gabe, a handsome finance attorney, seems like the perfect candidate and within a month they are madly in love. At least, Nat is - Gabe already has a family, who he has no intention of leaving.

When he abruptly ends things, Nat can’t let go. She begins drinking heavily and stalking Gabe and his family. Their supposedly mutually beneficial arrangement devolves into a nightmare of deception, obsession and, when a body is found near Gabe’s Upper East Side apartment, murder.

"An insider’s look into the world of sugar daddies...full of shocking revelations, volatile characters, and vice. Look out: The Arrangement will blow your mind." (Mary Kubica, author of The Good Girl)

"A nightmarish deep dive into the underbelly of a secret world. Rivetingly dark, The Arrangement delivers on every level - a shocking premise, a forbidden obsession, and a plot that builds slowly and masterfully escalates to a chilling end. Prepare to be blindsided." (Heather Gudenkauf, author of These Things Happen)

Rarely seen this many cliches in one book.

"Her body was an instrument, and he played her like a master". "He treated sex as an art form rather than a sport". Never heard those before /s. I'm trying to be kind but I'm struggling. The male hero is blue eyed, fifty, with a commanding presence and a European driver called Oleg; the heroine is gawky, charmingly clumsy, and an art student. The author sees sex work as demeaning and inauthentic. Trite moralizing with almost no literary talent or fresh ideas. Pass.

On par with a trashy magazine.

The main character Natalie lacks depth and is down right annoying. The author appeared to have a thesaurus close at hand as many times throughout the book three or more words in a row with the same meaning are offered. It seemed like fillers used to make up a word count. Annoying to listen to and did not add to the storyline. Plot is weak.

Narration has common words mispronounced.

mindless twaddle

The writing is simplistic. A ridiculous storyline. Characters not credible. salacious. I would not recommend.

Excruciating!

Almost stopped reading after a few paragraphs, then - it was rather like the old days when some B grade movies were so awful you had to find out if they if they could possibly get any worse- I stuck with it to the end. Full of Mills and Boon clichés, frequent grammatical errors (the hanging participle is a favourite) and inept use of vocabulary (there’s a singer whose voice “effluviates” from her throat, while in another scene the heroine takes a few minutes to “acclimate” to her surroundings) the prose style leaves a lot to be desired, to put it mildly. The characters are close to caricature : the wildly attractive but sociopathic seducer, the naive art student who imagines that all a sugar baby is required to do in order for her to get money to pay the rent is to go to dinner with him in a fancy restaurant, the wronged wife with a terminal illness, the rebellious daughter confused about her sexuality, the bluff, powerful Moldavian chauffeur with a heavy accent and a heart of gold.
The narration was pretty annoying too. I can tolerate the American twang, but there are mispronunciations in this reading that I suspect have little to do with differences in the way English is spoken in different countries, but are simply errors. And when the author likes to throw in a few foreign phrases, as this one does, the narrator really should do a bit of research on correct pronunciation, e.g, “de rigeur” enunciated as “day ree gore” just doesn’t cut it.

Good story line

It was good and I enjoyed it. However I found some bits dragged out with not really much focus on the murder mystery of it!

improved

It picked up at the end. Before then, I wasn't sure it was worth reading.

Easy listen and has you hooked

I enjoyed listening to this book on my long drives. A simple story line but very captivating and easy to listen to. I liked the drama in it and it kept me guessing to the end !
