New series, new world, new technology

It took about 30 minutes to get fully hooked by this story and the main characters. That’s pretty good for the start of a science fiction/fantasy series.

This world is a mashup of so many genres…. The book starts in a military school then on a military craft that can move thru air or water. There are mechanical animals and monsters… There is political intrigue, a strange planet with islands in the air, and interesting characters. Book had violence, but no language or spice.
