Story
Sharing a summer house with a hot-as-hell roommate should be a dream come true, right? Not when it’s Justin…the only person I’d ever loved…who now hates me. When my grandmother died and left me half of the house on Aquidneck Island, there was a catch: the other half would go to the boy she helped raise. The same boy who turned into the teenager whose heart I broke years ago.

Story
Reasons why I should not be drawn to Troy Serrano. Number one: He’s obnoxious. Number two: We were enemies more than a decade ago. Number three: He’s my friend’s ex-boyfriend. I could go on and on, really. When my boss gives me an unwanted assignment, and tells me it involves spending time with the grandson of one of our residents, the grandson turns out to be Troy. Lucky me. Four hours a week of having to deal with his insufferable personality and unsolicited advice - the only consolation is getting to stare at his annoyingly gorgeous face, in between our many arguments.

I'm writing this letter because it's highly doubtful I'll ever garner the courage to say this to your face. So, here goes. We're totally wrong for each other. You're the proper single mum with a good head on your shoulders. I'm just the carefree British doctor passing through town and temporarily living in your converted garage until I head back to England. But here's the thing... for some bloody reason, I can't stop thinking about you in very inappropriate ways.

It was the summer of my life. I’d met the guy of my dreams. Unfortunately, he was the son of my uppity employer - and very much off-limits. But Gavin was a rebel. He knew his mother would disown him if she found out about us; in his eyes, we just had to be careful. He never treated me as his mother did - like hired help. Instead, Gavin put me on a pedestal and loved me harder than I’d ever been loved in my life.

The day I showed up to Dax Moody’s sprawling home, I had no idea what was coming. As a traveling massage therapist, I was used to entering the houses of strangers. But this assignment was different from any before it. From the outside, I’d correctly assumed the owner was rich. What I didn’t realize was that he would be younger than I’d imagined, single, stunningly gorgeous, and mysterious.

Story
It’s natural to want the one you can’t have. And for as long as I could remember, I’d secretly wanted my brother’s best friend, Jace. He was six years older and always treated me like the sister he never had. Fast forward a decade. We were all in our 20s now. Jace had moved in with my brother, Nathan, and me to help us make ends meet after our parents died. It was just the three of us - an odd family dynamic. Living under our roof, Jace was as bossy and protective as ever. But he certainly didn’t look at me like a sister anymore. That was what made things so complicated.

Finding a good roommate through a classified ad isn’t as easy as it sounds. I was starting to lose hope. Until a knock at my door came, and God answered my prayers. Except...uh...wrong prayer, God. I’d definitely requested the big guy find me a drop-dead gorgeous man on more than one occasion...just not as my roommate. Declan Tate talked me into interviewing him anyway. While he was amusing and charismatic, I wouldn’t have been comfortable living with a man, so I regretfully declined. Then, cupcakes showed up at my door.

I’d never forgotten him - a man I’d yet to meet. Griffin Quinn was my childhood pen pal, the British boy who couldn’t have been more different from me. Over the years, through hundreds of letters, we became best friends, sharing our deepest, darkest secrets and forming a connection I never thought could break. Until one day, it did. Then, out of the blue, a new letter arrived. A scathing one - one with eight years of pent-up anger. I had no choice but to finally come clean as to why I stopped writing. Griffin forgave me, and we were able to rekindle our childhood connection.

Donovan and I met at a coffee shop to do the suitcase exchange. Turned out, it wasn’t just his voice that was sexy. The man holding my luggage was absolutely gorgeous, and we had an immediate spark. He got me to admit that I’d snooped in his bag and then convinced me to make it up to him by letting him buy me coffee. Coffee led to dinner, dinner led to dessert, and dessert led to spending an entire weekend together. So what did I do to repay him for his kindness? I waited until he was in the shower, then ghosted him.

The first time I met Merrick Crawford was during my job interview. Well, technically, I’d met him 20 minutes earlier when he’d barged into a fitting room a few doors down from my appointment. I yelled. He yelled. After an argument while standing in my bra, I proceeded to smash the door into the gorgeous jerk, trying to yank it shut. As you might imagine, I was freaked out when I discovered that the rude guy was my potential new boss. Yet he didn’t seem to recognize me. Or so I thought.... Until we wound up bickering again during my interview and he told me to go sniff my armpit.

The beginning of my sophomore year in college was off to a rough start. On the first day of orientation, I had an altercation with an infuriating British dude in a campus bathroom. (The ladies’ room was out of order. So, I used the men’s room. Don’t judge.) I got home later that night and realized that the foreign student we were expecting to rent a room in my parents’ house was allergic to our cat. So, the spare room went to someone else: Caleb - the British guy from the men’s room. And so it began...my love-hate story with Caleb Yates. Or was it hate-love in that order?

My planned trip for two unexpectedly turned into a trip for one. Rather than let my breakup get me down, I packed my bags and decided a week at a luxury resort was just what I needed. But one calamity after the next, and suddenly I was stuck without a hotel room, along with a few hundred other people. It looked like my fancy vacation was about to turn into me sleeping on the hotel lobby floor. Until I overheard a gorgeous man pretending to be someone he wasn’t in order to steal a reservation from a guest who hadn’t shown up yet.

It started out like any normal day. Then the fender bender happened. The guy I collided with drove an expensive car and was drop-dead gorgeous. Too bad he was also a total jerk. We argued over whose fault it was and any other thing that came out of his condescending mouth. Eventually, the police came and we went our separate ways. The insurance companies would have to figure things out. I had a job interview to get to anyway - one I was excited about. Though that excitement changed to disappointment the moment the person interviewing me walked in. The guy from the accident.

Money or love? Which would you choose? You probably just answered the question in your head, thinking it's an easy decision. For me, it's not. Did I mention it's a lot of money? A hell of a lot. I needed to go far away to think it through. As I embarked on an impulsive trip, I hit a detour when I met sexy Carter in the airport lounge. We struck up a heated conversation. Then, he left. I thought I'd never see him again. But fate had other plans. Surprise! He was the pilot of my flight.

Terrible Heroine

Publisher's summary
From New York Times best-selling author Penelope Ward, comes a new stand-alone novel.
The one that got away. Every girl has one, right?
Mine was a charming, British aristocrat who turned my world upside down one summer. From the moment I first spotted Leo in the distance through my binoculars, I’d been captivated. I certainly never expected to find a man showering outside of the property across the bay in his birthday suit.
Then I noticed his housemate staring back at me with binoculars of his own - watching me watching Leo. That made for an interesting conversation starter when I inevitably ran into them. Turned out, the handsome Brits were only renting that house for the summer in my seaside town.
Leo and I formed an instant connection, even though we were technically opposites by all appearances. I taught him how to dig for clams, and he taught me that not all wealthy and powerful guys are pretentious.
Despite knowing he was totally wrong for me, I couldn’t seem to stay away.
It was a wild and crazy few months. And before I knew it, we’d fallen in love. We both had one wish: more time together.
But Leo had obligations back home. He lived a life I’d never fit into. And I was going to law school. So, we decided to end it and never look back. A part of me always felt like I’d let my soulmate walk away.
I believed our story was over.
Until five years later when he sent me a letter that shook me to my core. I’d thought my world was turned upside down that first summer?
Well, I knew nothing yet.

Sweet with a modicum of cringe...
Above all though – it was so real. It didn’t feel like a fairytale written with the same series of events. Instead it was more of a real life romance with the character’s very own HEA. I preferred the originality as opposed to an ending we’ve read about time and time again.
In summary, everyone has a first love. That summer you spent with the best person ever. Sweet kisses and fireworks! In true Penelope Ward fashion, she captured those moments and let us relive them through the story of Felicity and Leo. Like all great summers and sometimes great loves, they come to end as seasons of life change. As much as these two wanted to make it work, they understood that obligations would not allow their love to last. The end of their summer romance will make you tear up BIG time. It was apparent they didn’t want to part. They were kind to each other. And their honest conversation was a breath of fresh air!! No inner monologues about what they wanted to say – they actually spoke to each other about everything.
I expected a tie to bond them, perhaps a surprise baby or something but the story ends….then picks up again five years later! This is where to cringe comes in because obligations are now firmly in place but just like any other love stories – these two will have a happily ever after- but after a bit of a rollercoaster ride of emotions and uncertainty.
I just hate that it was at the expense of someone else’s happiness. As an empathetic person, I felt everyone’s pain so deeply (a result of amazing writing- cheers Penelope) and wanted everyone to come out with a happy ending. THANK GOODNESS Penelope felt the same way because things worked out as they should but more than likely not how you'd expect.
While you kind of guessed which ways things would go - it was usually an unpredictable outcome. Some version of what you'd expect but better. This is a must read!
As always - the secondary characters were GREAT. Now I want to know all about Sigmund's story! The narrators were amazing – of course.

Tear Jerker
If I’m being honest, this story started out a little slow for me…but soon enough I was enthralled. Felicity was so awkward in the beginning. I loved seeing Leo pull her our of her shell. Their chemistry and love for one another was so raw and genuine. When they said goodbye after their summer together, my heart felt like it was breaking right along with theirs. And of course, things got even worse before they got better…but often these HEAs are the most rewarding in the end. Beautifully written. Exceptional narration!! Don’t miss this one!

💖 A TRULY SPECIAL & DEEPLY SATISFYING SLOW-BURN 💖
A true romance that hits hard where star-crossed lovers destinies were Oceans apart and their beautiful Summer days together had a very definite end date. Leo’s a British Duke’s son with a title of his own, parental expectations, responsibilities and heavy commitments.. so he tried hard not to give his heart to a beautiful redhead with freckles while on holiday in the U.S. And Law student Felicity fought hard to stop the tempting Brit from slowly stealing her heart.. and yet, without uttering those three precious words, they both knew they’d completely fallen in love. But their time together in Rhode Island too quickly ended.. and, over the coming years, life is going to be very cruel and life is going to be very kind to these two destined soulmates.
Worth a credit? Yes it’s so romantic, heartfelt, tender, torturous, beautiful, bitter-sweet, heartbreaking and has sex, angst and splashes of humor too. I loved the fact that, despite their chemistry, they fell in love with each other’s personalities while they initially ‘friend zoned’ the relationship to stop a futile romance. And Leo’s rude cousin/sidekick Sig weaved in and out of the story bringing his unfiltered comments and was a crucial character - I hope he gets his own book. I also loved the character development and evolution over the years for all the characters. The dual POV narration was great and breathed life into the cast and the many emotional highs and lows held within this gifted author’s wonderful work.

Outstanding
Not only did I love This story I just thought it was such an outstanding job. How 2 people can come from 2 different worlds fall in love and realize they can't be together. The story made me laugh cry was emotional. And the narrator's wooey Jacob did such a great job with his British accent. He definitely had me squirming in my seat. All in all this was a awesome listen. I feel bad for the people who don't do audio they don't know what they're missing.

Returned
I gave up on the book as I could not get into the story as every time the male narrator talked it took me out of the story as he was not at all convincing as British aristocrat. I do not know if this is due to the dialogue that the author has written reading more like a cliché of British phrases instead of how english people actually speak or if it is due to the narrators performance.

Meh
The storyline this time was really poor. Started this book 3 times before I actually finished it. It’s slow and boring at best. No much happening, and the plot twist is pretty average.

Get ready for an emotional ride 💞
Loved this story about Felicity and Leo. He is torn between fulfilling his responsibilities towards his family and the developing feelings for Felicity.
There is a lot of rollercoaster emotions during this story and the narrators performed them so well that sometimes I felt as exhausted as the characters.
Well done Penelope for a first class storyline. ❤

Love lasting despite distance and time
I loved this book. It was open and honest, making me laugh and cry. It was a wholesome love story of two people whose lives were opposite. Love wins in the end!

WINNER!
I loved this book such a good reality like romance story. I hate the usual girl meets rich boy, he sweeps her off her feet with his money and power, they have mind blowing sex and all live happily ever after. This book had a real life story with good times, laughter, great chemistry and sad times and tears. It really was the whole package so give it a read. I also thought the two narrators were perfect for the characters which was icing on the cake.

Beautiful story
Beautiful story of undefinable love.
Well written and captivating.
The jump between Felicity and Leo telling the story was remarkable in knowing the way they felt. It was great not being one sided.

3.8 ⭐
This had a rough beginning for me. I nearly stopped listening after a few chapters but decided to persevere. The ending had soo much more. But I did wish that there was more time after the '5 years later'. We had a lot of chapters about them falling in love but very few of the reconcile. I would've preferred if they went through memories together as a way to reconnect then to live through it all in the beginning. Overall, it's a good story though. But I think Sigmund's could be better.
The narrators were good but I felt like Jacob Morgan was bored with how he narrates. Maybe that's just his style, I haven't listened to many of his books yet.

Story
The day I showed up to Dax Moody’s sprawling home, I had no idea what was coming. As a traveling massage therapist, I was used to entering the houses of strangers. But this assignment was different from any before it. From the outside, I’d correctly assumed the owner was rich. What I didn’t realize was that he would be younger than I’d imagined, single, stunningly gorgeous, and mysterious.
