Publisher's Summary

A dedicated group of Orthodox monks (who wish to remain anonymous) have created a fresh English translation of the Masoretic Hebrew text of the Psalter, corrected to the Septuagint. A frequently asked question: The Psalms aren't in numerical order in this Psalter. Why is that? Answer: That was done intentionally. This edition of the Psalter was created for prayer, at home or in church, rather than for reference. It's not just another Book of Psalms. That means the Psalms are organized according to the established cycle of daily readings for Orthodox Christian monastic practice. We follow the same order in our churches and our homes. If you'd like more information for reference purposes, we recommend the Book of Psalms (and its accompanying notes) in the Orthodox Study Bible.

Psalter the way it's meant to be digested.

Psalter's meant to be read out loud and heard, not printed and read. So thank you Monks of the Orthodox Church and Fr. John Oliver. I find much strength having now the access to listen to the psalter while commuting on an over crowded Tokyo train to work. An honest presentation of the psalter beats one thousand "upbeat, don't lose hope yet" type of protestant publications. Glory to God.

A helpful aid to prayer

This recording of the psalms has been a great help to me to allow me to listen to the psalms and encourage a spirit of prayer at times when reading them is not an option - when driving, doing housework, or waiting for a small child to fall asleep. Note that they are arranged a traditional for prayer, not strictly in numerical order.

not the ancient faith psalter rather that of Henry

The most memorable moment was when I realized that it was the king James version of the bible.

Thank you

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have been wishing for a prayerful recording of the Psalter to be available as an audiobook for some time, and I am ever so pleased with this, and very grateful. It's a joy to listen to the Psalms read with devotion. Good to listen to even in addition to one's daily Office. I hope the Gospels will be recorded too.

Any additional comments?

Thank you!

Soothing and spiritually enlightening

I am Greek orthodox but have difficulty understanding the Greek priests. This reading provides the perfect alternative.
