Publisher's summary

What if conflicts at home, conflicts at work, and conflicts in the world stem from the same root cause? What if we systematically misunderstand that cause? And what if, as a result, we systematically perpetuate the very problems we think we are trying to solve?

From the authors of Leadership and Self-Deception comes an international best seller that instills hope and inspires reconciliation. Through a moving story of parents who are struggling with their own children and with problems that have come to consume their lives, we learn from once-bitter enemies the way to transform personal, professional, and global conflicts, even when war is upon us.

THE BOX

When initiated in the wrong context - both indifference and compassion can yeild unfavorable outcomes in a given circumstance or interaction, effectively shadowing our chances of reconciliation. this is why a wholistic method in viewing feasible solutions to a problem is so vital in allowing us a way to devise plans for action that account, not only for how our actions affect us and even those involved on a microcosmic level, but also gives credence to broader implications of those actions as well. This book does a good job in highlighting this. A broader range of understanding met with unbiased prospectives can yeild a higher level of resolve.

My new favorite book

My mind is spinning with all the practical application for my own personal life as well as in the work I do throughout the Middle East, particularly in conflict-affected meetings. Many of the concepts are ones that I already bring into the transformation leadership development journey, but there were many new ones as well.
I look forward to digging into the additional resources available on the Arbinger Institute website.

Additionally, I must say Oliver Wyman is an incredible narrator. I was easily able to know which character was speaking simply by hearing his distinct voice for each one. Both he and the content made this a boob I didn't want to stop listening--and all too often, I didn't stop!

Thank you, Arbinger Institute for the excellent book that has been written and published. I am quite confident that many lives will be transformed as a result of this body of work.
