Ok book, awful narration..

The book was really not that bad. It wasn't the best writing, but I did appreciate some of the descriptive scenes. What really made this book bad for me was the narrator. It sounded like he was not used to reading out loud. When he would say a sentence, it sounded like there was a period in the middle of it, if that makes sense. He also mispronounced SO many words! I think if someone like Luke Daniels or Amy McFadden had narrated this, it would have been so much better! As it was, I just wanted them to hurry up and find out what was going on so I could stop listening. The narrator did have a pleasant enough voice. If the narrator said a sentence like this, " The man went to the store yesterday. ", the narrator would read it like this, "The man went to. The store yesterday. " I mean, really? It made some of the story very hard to understand. He ruined it for me. So I guess I will just make sure I pay attention and play a sample before I purchase it. I am so disappointed.

sorry

This book was boring as hell. The narrator was very monotone. I didn't think it would ever end. I promised myself that I would finish all the books that I purchased just before I bought this one. All bets are off.

Don't waste your time

Would you try another book from Nick Thacker and/or Mike Vendetti?

Probably not

Would you ever listen to anything by Nick Thacker again?

Probably not

What didn’t you like about Mike Vendetti’s performance?

Monotone voice, words misread, poor pronunciation of Spanish words, felt like he was reading it for the 1st time

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disappointment

Any additional comments?

I was hoping to be entertained... but alas, I was mostly board to death, waiting for something that never arrived. The ending wasn't very good either.

No Editing

The story line was good. However, the narrator was horrible. He used wrong words like obvious for oblivious. His tone reminded me of Rod Servling from Twilight Zone. He obviously did not read this book prior to recording it.

I wanted to like this book, but...

I was offered the book free with $1.99 to add Audibles. This type of book is something I usually love and re-read or listen again and again. Maybe it was because this book was not the first, and the author kept reflecting back to the first book, but I felt lost at times and frequently lost the thread. It wasn't until nearly the end that everything was somewhat explained. To compare this book to Clive Cussler does quite a disservice to Mr. Cussler.

Great story, less great narration

What did you love best about The Amazon Code?

I loved this book! It's exciting, unpredictable and an incredible version of the Lost City of Gold. The characters are fleshed out and you can really relate to both the good guys and most of the bad guys. Excellent follow up to Enigma Strain. I'll continue to follow Mr. Thacker. I think the comparison to James Rollins is apt. The only downside to the book was the narration. Mr. Vendetti didn't throw me completely out of the book, but it was annoying. It sounded like he was reading the story for the first time and had no idea when to take a breathe. I was working in my yard raking leaves, so I didn't have the option to switch back to the book, so I stayed with it. But when I was able, I switched off the narration. I am not a fan of Mr. Vendetti's narration and will try to avoid his books in the future.

Harvey "Ben" Bennett is at it again

A company is just on the verge of perfecting something that was thought to be impossible -- recording dreams. When they stumble across a hidden message in certain recordings. Not knowing where to turn next, she enlists the help of some of her close friends to figure out what these hidden messages are actually trying to tell her.

The narration for The Amazon Code was done by Mike Vendetti, who has done numerous other Nick Thacker audiobooks. They work together for a reason and it shows. Vendetti is able to take Thackers words and make them jump off of the page. Sure, it's not "full cast" ensemble recording or anything, but Vendetti really does help Thacker's work go from good to great.

I'm thrilled to see more from Harvey Bennett. I really liked him as a character in The Enigma Strain (which I LOVED by the way). And I'm glad to see him back in a slightly different take on a story.

Thacker is one of my all-time favorite authors. Everything he comes out with has been well received by me, and with good reason. He knows how to write amazingly thought out fast-paced thrillers.

Overall, The Amazon Code was incredibly enjoyable. The action was fast-paced, and the story flowed really well. It was definitely a roller coaster climbing towards the climax. The final pages/minutes of the book just flew by as I tried to figure out what was going to happen. I love a book that can do that without leaving me feeling unsatisfied.
