Publisher's summary

Welcome to Rabbit Creek.... City girl Elizabeth Reynolds hopes to find peace and contentment in the small Appalachian town of Rabbit Creek. Okay, so the bucolic cottage she's rented turns out to be a dilapidated cabin without phone service, but the people she meets are wonderful. Friendly and down to Earth, they welcome her with open arms. It's just like moving to Mayberry...if Andy and Aunt Bea were wolves. Only an outsider would call them werewolves. They're wolvers, a community of man/beasts that have lived in these hills since their ancestors emigrated from Scotland three hundred years ago. And that gorgeous Chief of Police, Marshall Goodman, the guy she met while covered in mud and wearing granny underpants? The one who sends her heart spinning? He's their Alpha and his pack is under attack from outside forces. Elizabeth, being a sane and reasonable woman, wants no part of any of this, but if she refuses to risk her life and her heart, the people she's grown to care about will lose everything and she'll lose the one man she was born to love.

NARRATION? YES. IT MATTERS!!

I love Jacqueline Rhoades. She's an outstanding author who gives such wonderfully full story lines. I would recommend any book she writes. I will NOT give Leah Frederick (Narrator) another listen!! Because narration in an audiobook is EVERYTHING!!
Her voice is high pitched and it just hurt me to listen. I tried. Honest.
So, listen to the full sample listen before deciding to buy or not.

Entertaining story. Bad narrator.

What didn’t you like about Leah Frederick’s performance?

She read every single line like it was a one-liner joke. It was unbearably annoying. I will follow this series, but in book form.

The Wolvers is a Shifter story Not to miss

What made the experience of listening to The Alpha's Mate the most enjoyable?

When I read the summary I thought was, oh yeah just another wham bam shifter story, girl meets shifter falls madly in love jumps between the sheets kind a story.I was pleasantly surprised that it actually had a good plot and a real story to this one.BEST OF ALL a stronger lead female who wasn't just goanna run and cry for big bad shifter to save her but was happy to pick up a gun and stand her ground. Proving to everyone around her in the small town of rabbit Creak why she was perfect to be the Alphas mate.A great story, good plot, great description of the sort of scenery characters are set in, strong female lead and a good narrator.I recommend THE ALPHAS MATE to those looking for more than just sex, sex, sex in a shifter story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Alpha's Mate?

One of the moments I liked the most was when reveals to Henry that he doesn't need to worry that she knows everything that is going on between him and Marshall Goodman and that there is nothing to be ashamed of about being Gay. The shock that follows was absolute hilarious when Henry informs her that if would be fine if they were gay but they aren't, next he questions her on how many people she told about him and Marshal Goodman. Its so funny I could not stop laughing.

Which scene was your favorite?

I think that would have to be one of most favourite scenes in the book,

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did want to listen to all in one sitting in fact I had to listen to it two more times I loved it that much.

Any additional comments?

If you are looking for a real good shifter story with plot, character , drama and comedy with that bit of passion happening then this is a must for you.

3.5 STARS ENJOYABLE BUT SADLY MISSING THE PASSION

It was a great plot and had lots of potential with good world-building and a full cast of interesting/weird/wonderful characters BUT the romance side of the story was very weak and the sex was tame or only hinted at. I like my shifters to be all Alpha and to let their wild side out when they find their mate but this was just a weak whine rather than a heated howl.

Worth a credit? There were exciting parts and humorous parts but, for me, it was lacking the sizzling chemistry and romance. I got it while it was on sale so just bought it but if I'd used a credit on it then I would have been disappointed.

Not a fan of the narration

I feel like I would have enjoyed this story much more had there been a different narrator. Leah Frederick has a high pitched voice and made it sound like every sentence in the book ended in multiple exclamation points.
This was my first experience with a Jacqueline Rhoades book and the narration annoyed me so much that I honestly can't tell if I like this author. Thinking objectively, the story seemed interesting, but I was too distracted to get into it enough to FEEL the story so I don't have enough confidence in this author right now to risk spending a credit on the next book in the series, even though it has a different narrator.

A good old fashion love from two different worlds

What made the experience of listening to The Alpha's Mate the most enjoyable?

The passion from the characters, the feel of how they came together and the dislike of others. I do not think I would have felt the power as much if I had read it.

What did you like best about this story?

The great plot, the coming together as a family, the love of a town willing to give more than they take. The strong characters the alpha male is strong but willing to bend when need to. The strong female characters that kick butt and stand on their own.

Which character – as performed by Leah Frederick – was your favorite?

That is a tough question, there are so many wonderful characters here it is hard to pick just one. I love Marshall his sense of humor and strong ways. He was just an outstanding character.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I would have to say there was more than one. There are so many wonderful scenes from when Marshall found her to her thinking things that weren't so to her finding out why she was there...so many.....

Any additional comments?

The author does an outstanding job writing this in a style that you can see the woods, the hunt it is a very vivid story told in details with a great plot you get so pulled in that you do not want to put down. Before you are even half way through it you start believing there really are werewolves and you wouldn't mind meeting a few. With most books I have read of this nature you have some horny dogs who take what they want. That is not the case with this author she gives you a compelling story of passion, love, fear with strong both male and female characters that you can relate to. She gives you a story filled with thrills and a little mystery that pulls you in.

I loved this story because it was filled with family life, people taking care of people, they have honor, principles and stand up for each other. They are a pack but they are a family out to help each other. You can fill the love of each other, the need to please and be pleased. Everyone gives which is how this world should be, oh you have the bad wolves who are out for themselves. You must have bad with every good...the question is will the good win out against the bad?

I loved watching Elizabeth change and grow into the women she needs to be to stand beside her man. She might be afraid but she learns to stand her ground. I found her to be a delight from her sense of humor to her tempter.

Marshall was a delight very alpha but loving and caring. A man of honor who took care of his pack before he took care of himself. I loved watching him bait Eliza and keeping her tongue tied.

The author gives you wonderful strong supporting characters that puts the pack first. Their only need is to find a mate for their alpha in return they will get their deepest wish. Before that can be they must go down a few rough roads that will leave you holding your breath to the outcome.

I wasn't totally happy with the narrator she wasn't bad, I didn't care for all of her different voice. She isn't my favorite but I have listen to a lot worse. All in all I give her almost a 4. I loved her hillbilly accent and the words the author gave her. I just didn't care for her male voices. I would listen to her again if I found a story that interest me she wasn't that bad at all.

I do love this authors writing style, her words flow easy with her fun loving sense of humor that shows in her writing. I love her characters they have honor, love and give so much of themselves as they work towards one command goal. They work as a team wonderfully all for one and one for all. I loved the confusion, the planning, working out the best way to make things work out. I loved Elizabeth in so many ways I do believe my favorite was when she held the gun on the women on the phone. This book was full of humor that kept me laughing and chuckling through all the whole listen. I loved this story from beginning to the end I can't wait to see what the author has in store for me with the rest of the series. If you are looking for a read with fun loving characters who have honor and the love of their people look no farther the author gives you this and so much more with her passion filled story of the pack working towards the goal of love.

Wonderful book

This was an awesome book.I enjoyed this book immensely! I got this book on auto. if you're looking for a well written book that grabs your attention and sucks you in . Combining humor, adventure and romance. Elizabeth (Lizzie) is a middle class librarian on a career break and the story starts with her suffering a disaster that most women are secretly afraid of. She is rescued by a stranger who turns out to be the local Chief of Police - Marshall, who is tall dark and handsome but supposedly unavailable.
Lizzie rents a cabin in the woods where she plans to write a book. She quickly becomes ensconced in local life and settles in quickly when she discovers a secret that turns her world upside down. this is the beginning of wonderful series, I can't wait to read or listen to the next one.

Enjoyed!

I enjoyed the storyline from the beginning, but felt the ending should have been a bit less abrupt.

I was Impressed that the characters were well developed, captured and held my interest throughout the story. The sex scenes included sparked just the right amount of heat, and added to the excitement of the storyline without being used as filler.

I enjoyed the voices of the narrator for the characters, and look forward to listening to her talent again. In addition, I look forward to more books written by the author, and recommend others do the same.
