Acerca de esta escucha

General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna arrives in San Antonio with 6,000 troups and begins to besiege the Alamo for thirteen days. Flying a red flag and playing the El Deguello (cut the throat), Santa Anna signals that no quarter will be given to the defenders. You will be there with David Crockett, Jim Bowie, William Travis, and 16-year-old David Cummings as they fight to the bitter end in this spectacular epic production of one of the worlds most famous battles.

We are a homeschooling family who enjoys listening to audio books and dramas. This particular title was recommended to us and as we were studying the Alamo at the time, I purchased it. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with the performance or the story but here’s the warning: there is quite a bit of blasphemy and profanity. The Lord‘s name is taken in vain many times along with other words I would prefer my children not to hear in a book/drama. I can only blame myself, of course, because I did not pre-listen to it. But at least the rest of you are forewarned. The only other thing I would say is that the last 5+ minutes are killing (with sound effects, of course because it’s a drama) Again, I understand that this is how the battle really went, but because of my children’s ages, I probably would not have chosen it had I known. You can do as you see fit.

More or less historically accurate, with a few minor exceptions (such as Cummings, the unit’s surveyor, was 27 at the Alamo, not 16.) As portrayed in this telling, much of what we know of the battle was revealed through correspondence sent out from the Alamo. Well done, IMHO.

Sympathetic Dramatization
