Publisher's summary

Before I Fall meets "bah, humbug" in this contemporary YA reimagining of A Christmas Carol from New York Times best-selling author Cynthia Hand.

On Christmas Eve five years ago, 17-year-old Holly Chase was visited by three Ghosts who showed her how selfish and spoiled she'd become. They tried to convince her to mend her ways. She didn't. And then she died.

Now she's stuck working for the top-secret company Project Scrooge - as their latest Ghost of Christmas Past. So far, Holly's afterlife has been miserable. But this year's Scrooge is different. This year's Scrooge might change everything....

The Afterlife of Holly Chase is a witty, poignant, and insightful novel about life, love, and seizing second (or third) chances, perfect for listeners who loved Before I Fall or Dash and Lily's Book of Dares.

Not your average Christmas Carol

A fun look at what it might take to produce a supernatural miracle every year.

Warning - if you listen to the audio, Stephanie's "oh wow" around chap 3 will make you want to quit. Stick with it. The wows will go away and the story will get so worth the listen.

Holly is a Scrooge. And she doesn't repent. So she dies and spends her afterlife working for the company that failed to save her. She's the new ghost of Christmas past. The Scrooge Project is a little corporate, a little theater, a little supernatural, and full of employees who have to take Disconsonian stage names. 5 years after her death the company takes on a Scrooge that's Holly's age and her ill-advised interactions with him make her start actually living.

The story is a neat twist on the often-redone classic. Not super sappy. Only a smidge teen-angsty. Well worth the time for an unusual holiday story.

Holiday feels in the Middle of May

I had fun listening to this. I needed to watch The Christmas Carole first though to be ready with the story. This was recommended by Emmmabooks and was not disappointed.

A most fitting retelling

I loved this book, finished it in one sitting. I wasn't really feeling the Christmas spirit this year but this book has definitely gotten me in a better mood for the holiday.

Fun and interesting retelling!

I loved this! The Christmas Carol is one of my favorite stories of all time and this retelling was fun and very detailed. It makes you think of the ins and outs of the process. The main character really got on my nerves a lot though, but she is supposed to since she is a Scrooge. The only thing that really kind of bothered me is all of the OMG or just the main character saying "God" all of the time. I thought it was kind of inappropriate since this is sort of a spiritual experience story. Sort of Ironic that she is always taking the Lords name in vain, but at the same time talking of redemption and Christmas. I loved the story though. Some people may not like the ending, but I thought it was perfect!

I always love Erin's narration!

Erin Spencer is always one of my favorites for a narrator. She brings the stories to life and always seem to make them just a bit better.
The book itself was enjoyable and made me laugh and expect another twist here or there as it came to a close. Over all I'd recommend this book 😊

New Take on a classic

At first this story was really hard to get into because it was hard to connect with the main character but by the end you find yourself rooting for her despite your best efforts. Kind of like a true Scrooge EXCEPT I can relate more with a grumpy old man that a vapid teenager.

Great!

Great book! I loved how it ended! I was thinking it may turn out differently and I am glad it didn't go that way.
