Publisher's summary

Jack and Jill are two twin siblings living a normal life together. They go to school, they play games, and do their homework. They have loving parents and a beautiful home. There's only one small problem: Jack and Jill have never dreamed. In the realm of dreams, where all good dreams live, the souls of unborn children wait for their soon-to-be mothers to bring them to the realm of humans. When Jill's mother came for her, Jack was too scared to stay by himself. So even though he did not belong to Jill's family, he went with them anyway. Jack and Jill know now if they ever returned to the realm of dreams, they would be caught and separated forever. After drinking a sleeping medicine, however, both Jack and Jill fell into a deep sleep and couldn't help but enter the realm of dreams. The angel guarding the realm found them and managed to capture Jill. With Jill now unable to wake up, Jack must travel the five Realms of Beyond - The Pit, The realm of ghosts, the realm of humans, the realms of dreams and Heaven - to find a way to save his sister. Learn the meaning of bravery, friendship and love in this larger-than-life adventure. Your journey to Beyond awaits!

The full voice cast includes Joshua Story, D.E. Morris, Ashton Greso, Jon Zupan, and Adrian Cox.

Deep and strange.

The book definetly kept my son's attention. with sooooo many characters and every one having their own distinct voice, my son was able to follow along easily.
I love strange and this was by far very strange. There isn't much to compare it to, so I would say this is a cross between a kids version of Dante's Inferno meets NeverEnding Story.
My son enjoyed the story just as much as I did.

Fairytale about dreams and the afterlife

Any additional comments?

In the beginning, I was thrown a bit. My first thought was "This is for kids?"

I had those thoughts because when the mother's backstory was given, I didn't think it was too appropriate for children. Not that it was bad, just seemed disconnected with what kids would be interested in.

But after that, the story dove straight into a magical world of dreams and the afterlife. My favorite character by far was Goblin, a snarky little ghost who longed to be reborn as a human.

The 'laws' of having children is something entirely new, which was refreshing.

Definitely worth a listen for (my) kids.

I have had bad experiences with numerous narrators, but this motley crew did a bang up job, and the background sounds fit in perfectly. Between the descriptions and voices, I could picture it all happening in some animated movie.

Great job!

Good Children's Tale Without Being Too Soft

Where does The Adventures of Jack and Jill in the Realms of Beyond rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The use of a full cast to record this book definitely put it higher up the ranks of my favorite audiobooks, but I find it difficult to give it a numeric value.

What did you like best about this story?

Every major character had a full story arc, including my favorite, who might have easily been left out of the ending.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They were able to give each character a very specific voice, which made it easier to envision them in my mind.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Nipkin's actions toward the end were quite touching, but I won't go into details in order to avoid spoilers.

Any additional comments?

This book features an interesting mix of mythologies that I think is very appropriate for children's fiction. After all, is it not all stories to them?
