Publisher's summary
A girl's disappearance in a small town leads to a disturbing pattern.
The hunt for a kidnapper reveals a conspiracy unlike anything seen in the small town of Odessa, Texas. Notes left for investigators claim to be from the kidnapper, taunting them along the way and mentioning one former detective by name, Miriam Sandoval. Miriam is then enlisted to help crack the case, but what she finds results in more troubling questions, including dead suspects who aren't working alone. Leaks soon compromise the case, and Miriam is left with the difficult decision of holding back or doing things her way. The clock is ticking, and the deadly game of a demented predator has just begun. Can Miriam solve the mystery in time, or will the missing girls suffer a tragic fate?

My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

another step forward
This gets creepier with each book. The sick mind of this villain knows no limits to the depravity it wreaks on others nor does it care. In fact, it / they enjoy the results. On to the next psycho events. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job bringing it to life.
