DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. It is basically a diet program supported by the US National Institute of Health. It was devised to help to stop high blood pressure or hypertension.
Individuals on this diet are encouraged to consume more fruits and vegetables, along with non-fat or low-fat dairy. Fish, poultry, whole grains, and nuts are also allowed. Those foods which are forbidden include red meat, sweetened foods, and alcoholic beverages.
