Publisher's summary

Welcome to the world of Whispering Bay romance, where hot heroes and smart heroines collide to find their happily-ever-afters!

Allie Grant doesn't believe in second chances. She does, however, believe in the power of a permanent paycheck. So when a tipster reports that the soon-to-be demolished senior center in her hometown is haunted, Allie hightails it to Whispering Bay to get the scoop that could secure her dream job at Florida! magazine. What she finds, though, is far scarier than any ghost. Cue her ex-boyfriend, sexy construction foreman Tom Donalan.

When Tom catches Allie poking around his construction site, he quickly realizes his former high school flame is just as feisty as ever. And, heaven help him, her irresistible, mile-high legs still take his breath away. But Tom isn't about to delay the building's demolition because of a silly ghost story.

With neither of the stubborn exes backing down from their opposing positions, sparks fly. And, underneath the surface, the fire of their old attraction burns as hot as ever. When strange things start happening with increasing frequency around town, even a tough skeptic like Tom is tested. The question is, can Allie and Tom stop fighting long enough to get to the bottom of Whispering Bay's ghost problem - and the more important matter of mending their broken hearts?

Delightful and sweet

This story is exactly as it presents itself - a wonderful break from life to an awkward situation between two former high school sweethearts. I loved Allie because she just couldn't get out of her own way which is so typical of most of us. Tom is a little too perfect for my taste - how does anyone live with someone so perfect? Anyway, the story is cute and the person that brought Allie to Whispering Bay are mysterious. I'm looking forward to the next story in this series. Recommend this story for a happy break.

Good read

This book is a good read. Not really any excitement or intrigue. It was a bit too drawn out for me. The narrator was good.

Heart and humor collide...

Would you listen to That Thing You Do again? Why?

Maria Geraci is known for her upbeat heartwarming stories. Ms. Robins lives up to all I would expect the main characters Tom and Allie to be. Equal parts humor and frustration, but mostly heart. And Carly Robins gives it her all in that area.

What did you like best about this story?

That Thing You Do was a smiling idiot out of me. Lightened my heart and brightened my day.

What does Carly Robins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brings an exciting delivery. Her exuberance gave the characters a dimension that felt like they leapt right off the page and were right in front of me. Heart, soul and fun permeated through every line, scenario and character.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The interactions between Allie and Tom were always a pleasure. The chemistry was evident. Heated, irritated and laced with spirit each held their own and gave the town something to talk about.

Any additional comments?

Ms. Geraci wrote a story that alone speaks for itself but Ms. Robins gave and explanation mark to an already attention getting group of characters.

Couldn’t finish

I don’t understand why the ex was a big part of a romance story. Basically the heroine was the other woman. I was two hours in and had to give up. There was not connection between the main characters because the ex and the hero were like best friend. As a reader/ listener this was very poor plot. I wanted to give this one zero rating. Unfortunately there was no such rating.

That thing you do

What a good time I had reading this book! It is a romance, sort of. and a few humorous characters in a small town liven up the story.
