Publisher's summary

From the author of My Oxford Year, Julia Whelan’s uplifting novel tells the story of a former actress turned successful audiobook narrator—who has lost sight of her dreams after a tragic accident—and her journey of self-discovery, love, and acceptance when she agrees to narrate one last romance novel.

For Sewanee Chester, being an audiobook narrator is a long way from her old dreams, but the days of being a star on film sets are long behind her. She’s found success and satisfaction from the inside of a sound booth and it allows her to care for her beloved, ailing grandmother. When she arrives in Las Vegas last-minute for a book convention, Sewanee unexpectedly spends a whirlwind night with a charming stranger.

On her return home, Sewanee discovers one of the world’s most beloved romance novelists wanted her to perform her last book—with Brock McNight, the industry’s hottest, most secretive voice. Sewanee doesn’t buy what romance novels are selling—not after her own dreams were tragically cut short—and she stopped narrating them years ago. But her admiration of the late author, and the opportunity to get her grandmother more help, makes her decision for her.

As Sewanee begins work on the book, resurrecting her old romance pseudonym, she and Brock forge a real connection, hidden behind the comfort of anonymity. Soon, she is dreaming again, but secrets are revealed, and the realities of life come crashing down around her once more.

If she can learn to risk everything for desires she has long buried, she will discover a world of intimacy and acceptance she never believed would be hers.

Editorial Review

The art of witty banter
I’ve spent many a summer day listening to the extraordinary Julia Whelan, who’s narrated some of my all-time favorite stories, but this one is extra special. Written and performed by Whelan, Thank You for Listening is a witty, fun rom-com that embraces fans and skeptics of the romance genre alike. It’s super smart without taking itself too seriously, telling the story of Sewanee Chester, a former actress turned successful audiobook narrator—who has lost sight of her dreams after a tragic accident—and her journey of self-discovery, love, and acceptance when she agrees to narrate one last romance novel. It’ll leave you blushing with a perma-smile on your face. — Tricia F.

Julia Whelan is the GOAT

I started listening to audiobooks 2.5 years ago and quickly learned that almost all of my favorites had one thing in common - they were narrated by Julia Whelan.

When I discovered she had written a book - My Oxford Year - I absolutely had to listen to it, and I was not disappointed! It was such a wonderful story of love and loss. I loved that it wasn’t super romcom-y all perfectly tied up with HEA and felt more real. Then I saw she had a second book available for preorder so I snatched that up and as soon as it landed in my library yesterday I started listening and barely stopped.

From the get go I was laughing out loud, literally, at things I think all audiobook listeners have noticed. From trying to figure out how pupils could possibly throb, to desperately begging people to pronounce mischievous correctly, to hoping and praying that your headphones are, in fact, connected to your phone (my catastrophic error has happened at home with our Bluetooth speaker lightbulb in our living room. WHY haven’t I disconnected it yet??).

All the relationships were wonderfully written and portrayed. I really liked the smattering of spice and loved the tension.

I loved that while it was a love story it was also about so much more than just their relationship.

Truly a 5⭐️ read all around. Thank you so much for a beautiful listen!!

Disappointed

Julia Whelan is my favorite narrator. She can make even trash sound interesting, but this book is just not good. I’m bummed to not give it 5 stars and confused by all the good reviews. I just could not get into it and the names were SO ANNOYING. “Blah” for the grandma? And the long A name…come on?!? Trying too hard. Skip this one

A Lovely Diversion

Julia Whelan has written another utterly enjoyable novel and her performance as narrator is amazing.

It is fun to read a novel where the author uses every romance novel trope she can weave into the story without it falling apart. her author's note at the end illuminates her thought process and it's very interesting.

Congratulations on a successful Sophomore novel! I'm looking forward to more.

Just okay

This book was okay. I think my expectations were too high. The narration was really good so that bumped my rating to 3 stars. I had a hard time getting into this book. It didn't really capture my attention and it ended up taking me three weeks to finish. The main characters were fine but I found that I liked the side characters more and was more interested during the scenes in which they were involved. This book is also very predictable. That's not necessarily a bad thing depending upon how surprised you like to be during books. There's really not much more to say, I felt very blah overall. Speaking of blah, I really enjoyed the side character, BlahBlah. Okay, that's it. That's all I have for this book.

Too much Romance

I was sad that it turned into a romance type novel.,thought it would be more of a history of what it is like to be a narrator. I wouldn't recommend this book unless you like romance, I do not. I should have known better with character names like Swaunee and Brock.

Excellent!

Talented writer AND narrator! I listened to the whole book in one day, putting everything else on hold. I was prepared to be disappointed, did not believe it would be better than My Oxford Year. It is just as good. More please!

Can’t stop listening!

There are so many things I love about this book. I fell in love with the main characters so quickly. There wit and batter is so fun. I wish there were an immediate sequel, although the ending is very satisfying. Julia Whelan is my favorite narrator. She has a mastery of altering her voice for people of any age, gender, and dialect. She is, also, a great author. This book is one of my favorites. I’ve listened to it in its entirety and excerpts repeatedly, as it still makes me laugh and puts me in a good mood. I highly recommend this book!

Brilliant

Julia Whelan has always been my favorite narrator and I was so excited when I saw that she was coming out with another book. This story captivated me from the beginning and held me until the very last word. The note from Julia at the end was superb and made the story even more wonderful.
