Publisher's summary

In James Patterson's white-hot Western thriller, a Texan Ranger fights for his life, his freedom, and the town he loves as he investigates his ex-wife's murder.

Across the ranchlands and cities of his home state, Rory Yates's discipline and law-enforcement skills have carried him far: from local highway patrolman to the honorable rank of Texas Ranger. He arrives in his hometown to find a horrifying crime scene and a scathing accusation: he is named a suspect in the murder of his ex-wife, Anne, a devoted teacher whose only controversial act was ending her marriage to a Ranger.

In search of the killer, Yates plunges into the inferno of the most twisted and violent minds he's ever encountered, vowing to never surrender. That code just might bring him out alive.

disappointed in Patterson

the main character is exceedingly arrogant . I rolled my eyes so many times at his shortsighted detective work. Patterson portrayed the characters with such little depth

Feeling Anxious

I give it 3 stars because it’s Patterson’s fast past mystery. However I do not enjoy good men running from trouble the entire book. Trying to figure out who dun it is great but I do not read fiction to feel anxious about to good guys breaking laws!

Great story.

It kept my attention right from the beginning. It wasn’t a typical James Patterson novel. The characters seemed alive and very real. I didn’t see the ending coming. A very good book all around.

Good story!

This is a non-complex enjoyable and easy read. I was a bit reluctant because of some of the reviews but it turned out to be pretty good. The narration was great.

Mediocre

There were times the writing was just too corny. Made it hard to listen. The main character was unlikable. Expected better from Patterson.

Just Okay

It was okay. I was looking for just a quick read. If there ends up being a second book I probably would not listen.
