Publisher's summary

Scottish beauty Roslynn Chadwick needs the safety of marriage to protect her from an unscrupulous cousin and the fortune-hunting scoundrels who covet her wealth. And Anthony Malory is precisely the sort of handsome rogue she's been warned against.

A cunning, ruthless, yet irresistible rake, Anthony's sensual blue eyes speak of pleasures beyond her imagining - and Roslynn, believing his passionate promises will surely lead to disaster, dearly wishes she dared to surrender to such a man. But denying her heart may cost the exquisite Highlands lady an unparalleled love hotter than flame and more precious than the rarest jewel.

The saga continues: listen to more romatic tales of the Malory family.

Bad narrator

The story has some problems but the main issue is Laural Merlington. She absolutely can NOT do these accents. And please, please STOP voicing the laugh! It is VERY irritating, it not only pulls me out of the story, I cringe every time I hear "he/she chuckled/laughed" cause I know that horrible "heh, heh, heh" laugh sound will follow. I have managed to listen to Merlington before. She does the laugh on Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series also. The *laugh* combined with the HORRIBLE accents make this a very unpleasant listen.

good story ruined by an awful narrator

My title says it all. This is one of my favorite stories and it was ruined. Who picks out these narrators? I don't think these people get how important the narrators are.

Great story

The Malory Novels are wonderful. I only wish that Audible would get all of the Malory Novels.

Love Those Mallorys

And the saga continues. The Mallory family is a radical collection of loveable scalywags and Johanna Lindsey knows just how to tell their stories. Tony takes his turn in the firing line of cupid's arrows. His lady love is going to fit right in to the family. If she and Tony can just get to the point of trusting each other all should be well.

Great fun!

One long advertisement for other books in series

I feel really stupid that I let the offer of three romances for 2 credits dupe me into downloading this shallow, ridiculous book. It was like one long advertisement for other books in Lindsey's Mallory series. Here's the thing - once I finish a romance - which is pure escapism - I do not want to revisit the characters in their wedded bliss. The tension and the conflict of their story is done, and Lindsey's insistence on giving old characters cameos in other books just dilutes the dramatic tension of the new book. I don't care about them anymore and I want to get to the fireworks between the new characters. I grew up on Lindsey and some of her early works were among my favorite books as a teenager. But in this book, the characters were very poorly drawn - all stock figures interchangeable from other books - the world-weary rogue, the innocent yet incapable heroine and the Scottish duenna. Get rid of this last character, Johanna, please. In fact, unless your last name is Gabaldon, can we all agree to stop writing and reading about stereotyped Scots? The narrator was also dreadful. I mean, really dreadful. Her idea of a male character is gravel in the voice. It sounded so ridiculous. For a really good romance with well-developed characters, a decent plot and great romantic tension AND A GREAT NARRATOR check out Josie Lytton's "Dream of Me" series. I want my two credits back.

LOVELY READ

Usually I only remove my ipod from my car when I am close to the end of a book, because then you HAVE to finish, but this one got the best of me - I removed it on Friday and it was done by Sunday.

The Malory family are a great bunch, I love hearing about their antics and the story line; although predictable; is wonderful!

Johanna, lovely writing - Thank you

Tender Rebel (Unabridged)

Very entertaining. I listened to this while traveling alone on a long trip. I was so into the story; I didn't mind the empty passenger seat! J.L. is an all time favorite of mine. Thank you Johanna Lindsey for coming along on a cross country trip that would have otherwise been very dreary!

The Kind Of Man We Dream Of.

What made the experience of listening to Tender Rebel the most enjoyable?

Narrator Laural Merlington definitely delivers her best performance thus far. She has gotten much better at the male character voices & has even begun adding soft, tenderness in her delivery of the words we women crave to hear from our leading man. It made my listening experience as real as reading the book & being carried away to England. Johanna Lindsey knocked this book out of the park. Tender Rebel is primarily Anthony & Roslynn's story, but we get to enjoy more of James Mallory's rebellious & quite humorous personality. As Jeremy Mallory (James' 17 year old son) would say..... "Hell's Bell's" this was a great book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tender Rebel?

In this book Anthony & his brother James are reunited and seem to pick up right where the left off before James took to the seas 10 years earlier. The brothers amuse themselves with hilarious banter every chance they get. Don't let that fool you though, cause when it comes to family the Mallory men are tender yet very protective & always have each other's back.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I think I had a constant smile on my face throughout the entire story & yes I most definitely laughed.

Enjoyable

I have just finished listening to this novel and am now waiting for the 'Gentle Rogue' to download.
At first look, I was uncertain if I would enjoy this series, so I started with this second book 'Tender Rebel' as the synopsis appealed to me the most.
At one point Roslynn began to annoy me, simply because she believed the worse in Anthony with very little evidence to feed her distrust. Personally, I found this frustrating and a little unbelievable that she could be that dim-witted. It distracted me for a while but I've listened to far worse plots with far more annoying female protagonists so I got over it in the end and continued enjoying the story. Apart from this, it was any easy listen and held my interest with everything you look for in a fun, delightful romance story.
I must say, it was very clever of the author to introduce the next novel's plot during this story. I think I may now be hooked on the Malory series.

Narration Not the Best

I've listen to Ms Merlington read several of Johanna Lindsey's later books and really enjoyed them. Not so this one. Her accents seemed off and the fake laughter was terrible.

I'm planning on listening to the whole Maloy series, though as I know she gets better.

Enjoyable

At first look, I was uncertain if I would enjoy this series, so I started with this, the second book 'Tender Rebel' because the synopsis appealed to me the most. After finishing the listen I immediately headed to audible to download another book from the series, 'Gentle Rogue'.

I have to say that at one point Roslyn began to annoy me, simply because she believed the worse in Anthony with very little evidence to feed her distrust. Personally, I found this frustrating and a little unbelievable that she could be that dim-witted. It distracted me for a while but I've listened to far worse plots with far more annoying female protagonists so I got over it in the end and continued enjoying the story.
Having said that, this was any easy listen and held my interest with everything you look for in a fun, delightful romance story. With just over ten hours of listening, I felt it was worth the price.
I must say, it was very clever of the author to introduce the next novel's plot during this story. I think I may now be hooked on the Malory series.
