Not my Taste

This was an indicator that I should always listen to a sample before buying a book. I found the reading very sweet - what my son once called 'talking in pink'.
Worse - the story was weak and the writing overblown - the hero's eyes were 'faceted gold' - and I kept having images of insect eyes.

I LIKE an occasional bodice ripper - but this was one I could not even force myself to listen to for more than half the book. I have read books by Sandra Brown before and had not had the same level of irritation with them. I think it was the combination of writing and reading that was so unfortunate.

It was a valuable but expensive lesson.

Huge Disappointment

If this was my first Sandra Brown book I ever read, it would have been my last Sandra Brown book I ever read. Have read many and enjoyed them. This one was 100% boring. No plot.

Wow, this was a good story!

I love a good hot steamy romance story and this one does not disappoint! Sandra Brown is a great story teller.

I can't believe it's by Sandra Brown

This book has a tissue thin plot line. The main female character has all the emotional range of a three year old. If your idea of romance is shallow manipularive behaviour, this is the book for you. Don't waste your time and money.

Really enjoyed this book. I

I know one reviewer didn’t like the narrator but I liked her. I got a little tired of heroine’s anger with the hero but the reasons were revealed near the end and understandable.

Outdated

Sandra Brown first published this book in 1983. Today this story would not be told the same way. The Me Too Movement has made women more aware of being sexually harassed in the workplace.

Sandra Brown is one of my all time favourite

No matter what she puts out I enjoy. From her earlier work to the more intense new releases. My go to author when I want to read a good love story.

Dated plot and aggravating narration

This is a bottom-of-the-barrel cheesy trashy romance. The writing is overblown and cringey. The plot revolves around the male MC in pursuit of a “reluctant” female MC whose only role seems to be throwing hissy fits left and right. I was never clear as to what the MMC saw in his love interest, who comes across as a hypocritical, self deluded twit with the intelligence of a gnat and the tongue of a viper. She gets all twisted up when she finds out that the MMC had lobbied for her to get her cushy job. He hadn’t planned for her to find out but the silly girl gets all hot and bothered anyway accusing him of forcing a quid pro quo. When she was widowed, she had no job prospects. Somehow a helping hand from the MMC to give his employee’s widow a boost was worthy of her anger? Go figure. The whole seduction trap the FMC created to get back at the guy (she's going to seduce him and dump him in public) is juvenile, irrational and idiotic, pretty much what you would expect from such a dimwit. Her reasoning is befuddling, probably because there's no reason behind it, just an author's ploy to force the MCs together in intimate situations. For his part, the MMC seems too willing to take the crap the FMC dishes out.

I’m glad I didn’t have to pay anything extra for this audiobook.

Listening to Raudman is akin to listening to a schoolyard of cackling and squealing little old men and women pretending to be kids. She likes to make her voice quavery when he characters are engaged in a sexual situation. The combination of her heavy Midwestern twang, sibilant Ss, pseudo Southern accent is downright cringey.

No Story at all in this one

I like a lot of Sandra Brown's books but this had to be the worse one I ever had. No story at all. Completely boring and predictable.
