Publisher's summary

When Northstar Security agent Justine Shelby is assigned to protect world-famous author Rosalee Kane, the last thing she wants is help from the author’s nephew, prickly but attractive FBI Special Agent Nelson Kane. Shelby is used to depending on herself and is content to work alone, but Rosalee and Kane make Shelby wish for something more. Of course, he may never forgive her if the assignment isn’t successful, and the threats are escalating.

Kane doesn’t trust Northstar Security, blaming them for his close brush with death. His first encounter with the deceptively innocuous agent doesn’t improve his attitude, but circumstances compel them to join forces. As things turn deadly and their every move is countered, Kane comes to depend on Shelby in a race against the clock to keep Rosalee alive. Shelby and Kane must uncover the deadly betrayal without dying first.

A good mystery/suspense story about who is trying to keep FBI Agent Nelson Kane's aunt Rosalee from writing and publishing her memoirs and why. Agent Kane doesn't take it seriously until Northstar Security Agent Justine Shelby is on the job and taking it very seriously. Justine, Shelby and Nelson, Kane are attracted to each other from the beginning. The threesome try to stay ahead of Rosalee's threat with varying degrees of success.

The narrator, Charles Henderson Norman, has a terrific voice. Deep and wonderful to listen to. I think he would be fabulous as the male parts and narration in stories. Not so much with the female voices. Rosalee's voice sounded so much like a male imitating a female interpretation like in a joke or something and it was hard to pick up on when Shelby was speaking vs Kane at times. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. It is probably due to the deep resonance that is also so pleasing with the male characters.

I recieved a Audible copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

Another exciting addition

I got this ARC via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. I listened to the book that came before this one and enjoyed it very much and could hardly wait until this one came out. I love the interactions of the characters and especially when the love bugs bites them and they both have deep thoughts about it. the adventure part of the story is also fun and exciting. Overall this is a good series of books to listen to. The narration was good and really brought the action out without overpowering the story.

Tell It Like It Is!!!

Awesome story by Stanalei Fletcher! I have been hooked on the Northstar Security series from the very beginning. I love the fact that each book is a standalone listen. This particular book has the client playing matchmaker which I found to be so enjoyable. Justine and Nelson are the focus of Rosalee's matchmaking efforts, along with staying alive. Charles Henderson Norman performed this book his Dick Hill style narration, which I highly enjoy. One can easily hear which character is speaking. I loved the unexpected twists this book had, and found humor in the Tell It Like It Is scenes, especially the beginning one. Without giving away spoilers, the ending was great! I cant wait for the next Northstar Security book! I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

When all is not as it appears

This is the fifth installment in the Northstar Security series and I enjoyed it as much as the others. This book pits Justine Shelby, an agent from Northstar, against Nelson Kane, an FBI agent who has every reason to distrust Northstar. Now his aunt is being threatened and Kane believes he should be the one protecting her, not the group he believes nearly got him killed.

First I have to say I loved Rosalee, Kane’s elderly aunt. The woman is a hoot. She’s a veteran romance writer who wants a happy ending for her nephew. And her new bodyguard is just the perfect woman for him, as far as she’s concerned. Shelby and Kane have differing opinions on this but sometimes close quarters bring people together in a way they hadn’t anticipated. This thriller is very much in the vein of the other books and it was good.

Charles Henderson Norman always delivers a strong performance and this book is no exception. My only caution is his voice for Rosalee is a challenge but I quickly adapted. Young children and elderly ladies are often challenges for narrators with deep and resonant voices. As I said, he delivered a solid narration.

I enjoyed this book and would love more in the series but I believe this will be the last one. Thank you Stanalei for giving me a great group of books.

Love Northstar Security!

So I may have said that bk 4 was my fave in this series...I have to amend and say that THIS book is the best yet! I love that the female Northstar agent wasn’t angsty and belligerent.
Northstar agent, Shelby, has been assigned to protect author Rosalee Kane, who has been receiving death threats. Apparently someone does not want Rosalee to publish her autobiography.
FBI agent, Nelson Kane, has been placed on routine administrative leave after a suspect was killed in a bust. Now he gets to spend the holidays with his aunt, Rosalee. Nelson doesn’t count on meeting undercover bodyguard, Shelby, who just happens to work for the company responsible for his being shot during a prior case. Can the pair put aside their differences and work together to keep Rosalee safe? Will anything come of the growing chemistry between them or will the attempts on Rosalee’s life keep their focus?
I really enjoy this series and this book did not disappoint. Loved the HEA...and the bad guys getting their comeuppance. Narration is on point.

What a great story!!!

I’m very selective with the mysteries I decide to read and I’m so glad I gave this book a try. I’m not familiar with this author, but from now on, I’ll keep my eyes open for more books written by her. I have not read the previous books in the Northstar Security Series but this one can be read as a stand alone.

Narration was good and brought the story to life.

The characters were interesting and the story kept me enthralled from beginning to conclusion. I like light mysteries with a touch of romance and humor! This book was even better than I expected it. Now, I just need to go back and read the previous books in this awesome modern detective series!

Such a good series!

This series continues to get better and better as it goes on. Northstar Security dispatches Shelby to protect author Rosalee Kane. She is writing her biography and is receiving threats. No one is really taking her seriously except Northstar, and now that the threat is real, Kane's nephew, FBI Agent Kane comes to her aid. Shelby and Kane butt heads, but you can feel their immediate chemistry. Both have Rosalee's safety as their main priority though and will do whatever it takes to keep her protected. Stanalei Fletcher writes such strong heroines, yet each have a vulnerability that keeps them human. Shelby is full of spunk, is extremely capable, but you feel her passion when it comes to Kane. Kane is a strong-willed agent, wants to play by the book, but has a respect for Shelby and knows together they are stronger. This romantic suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. It's full of twists and turns, unexpected culprits and an slow burning romance. I love this series.

Charles Henderson Norman continues his narration and is the voice of Northstar. I love his consistency with his character voicing, and ability to switch with ease between female and male narrations and with this one he even voiced an older woman with precision! He makes the listen suspenseful and fun.

Light reading: suspense, romance, humor

Sparks fly when introvert Justine Shelby, a Northstar Security agent, joins forces with FBI Special Agent Nelson Kane in protecting his larger-than-life aunt Rosalee Kane; a well-known author who has received threats. Very light reading; suspense with a touch of romance and humor.
Norman has an interesting narrative style that makes me think of military or police procedurals, and since this is a security firm....though I’d love to hear him read a work a la Andrea Vernon.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review; I was not compensated for my review and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
