Publisher's Summary

In Telegraph Hill, private detective Ray Infantino searches for a missing girl named Tania. The case takes him to San Francisco, the city he abandoned years ago after his fiancé was murdered.

Thrust into his old city haunts, Ray finds that Tania may not be lost at all. Tania saw a murder; and a criminal gang, the Black Fist Triad, wants to make sure she never sees anything again. Ray enlists help from an old flame, Dominique, but now he has three women on his mind.

Meeting with various witnesses - ex-cops, prostitutes, skinheads - he relentlessly tracks the evidence. But the hunt for Tania fires his obsession with avenging the murder of his fiancé. When the triad retaliates, and blood begins to flow, Ray must walk the knife edge between revenge and redemption on the streets of San Francisco.

Intriguing

I liked the style of writing in this story, the crime noir feel of it. The premise was interesting, the characters likeable. No real big surprises

I'm not sure the narrator's voice was right for this book. Don't get me wrong, he had a nice voice, but the First Nations cadence to his narration was at odds with the crime noir setting. The pauses at different parts of the sentences, and emphasis of other parts of sentences that didn't need to be emphasized took a bit away from the narration.

I'm assuming this is or will be part of a series of stories just in the way the secondary plot line remained unfinished. While I appreciate the rounding out of the character, I'm not sure it was really needed. It didn't take anything away from the main plot, however.

I enjoyed the story overall, it kept my interest and parts of it kept me guessing.

Interesting story, better audio quality needed

I liked this book. It had an interesting storyline and interesting characters. I liked the setting in San Francisco and was really happy to get some little nuggets about Chinese culture. I listened to the Audible audio version of the book narrated by Charles Kahlenburg. I probably would have given it another star with a different narrator, though. Even though the narrator was good at a lot of the qualities I look for in a narrator (doesn't do annoying, high-pitched females, good character differentiation, etc.), I just had a hard time hearing or understanding the narrator a lot of times. Perhaps it was just the quality of the recording that made it hard to understand and if that's the case, I would probably like the book a lot with a better quality audio file. Overall, this is an interesting story and if you like Noir Fiction/Detective stories, I recommend checking this one out.
