Turn off the music!

I enjoyed the story but having music in the background during the reading was annoying.

Haunted me for years

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I heard this book over 15 years ago. It made me want to go to Alaska. I finally went this year. So, yes.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cookie, she is the sled dog this book is dedicated to

What about Gary Paulsen’s performance did you like?

He has this really droll, deadpan narration that draws you in.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

An idiot and his dogs. Also, carnivorous squirrel.

Any additional comments?

I first heard this audiobook on cassette at a local library. Checked it out several times. Got the audible version and was transported back. So haunting, mysterious, funny, down-to-earth. I've listened to it more than 8 times, and it makes me cry every time.
