Publisher's summary

Fans of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices know that Magnus Bane is banned from Peru—and now they can find out why. One of 10 adventures in The Bane Chronicles.

There are good reasons Peru is off-limits to Magnus Bane. Follow Magnus’s Peruvian escapades as he drags his fellow warlocks Ragnor Fell and Catarina Loss into trouble, learns several instruments (which he plays shockingly), dances (which he does shockingly), and disgraces his host nation by doing something unspeakable to the Nazca Lines.

This standalone short story illuminates the life of the enigmatic Magnus Bane, whose alluring personality populates the pages of the number-one New York Times best-selling series The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices. This story in The Bane Chronicles, What Really Happened in Peru, is written by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan.

Entertaining

I am new to this series, having read only The City of Bones so far. I am listening to these short stories and enjoying them a lot. I like Magnus and enjoy learning more about him.

This Character does not sound like Magnus Bane

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I cannot think of anyone

Would you ever listen to anything by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan again?

Possibly

Which scene was your favorite?

none

What character would you cut from What Really Happened in Peru?

Magnus Bane

Any additional comments?

This was written in an elementary school style of writing with adult content. It also depicted Magnus Bane as a fool. I did not see the Magnus Bane of Cassandra Clare's book in this character.

So fun, Loved It!

I loved this book. Jesse Williams did a wonderful job narrating. The flow and the tone is just how I imagined Magnus Bane would be. Very entertaining, I would love to see more stories of Magnus Bane, especially if Jesse Williams would be the narrator.

Not what I expected....

Would you try another book from Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan and/or Jesse Williams?

The Magnus Bane in The Mortal Instruments was entertaining while performing magnificent deeds. The majority of this was about his love of clothing, jewelry, men and women. Boring Boring Boring.

What was most disappointing about Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan ’s story?

Very little action and magic from Magnus and way to much fluff.

No, because you don't find out what happened in Peru!

What was most disappointing about Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan ’s story?

It had it's funny points but to leave us with no answer was mean, I felt robbed of my money.

Co-authored for sure!

Would you try another book from Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan and/or Jesse Williams?

No, the writing style in this story was very different from Cassandra Clare's other works. It is very obvious that it was co-authored.

Would you recommend What Really Happened in Peru to your friends? Why or why not?

No, the writing style was not as effective as Cassandra Clare's other books, it felt more like a summary of a larger story than an actual story. The whole thing felt rushed and lacking important details.

What didn’t you like about Jesse Williams’s performance?

He read way too fast, I tried to slow the reading speed down but it didn't work on my phone, there was a strange echo. The narrator read like he was 16 and taking on the phone to his buddies- he sped thru the entire story.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

If all the short stories were combined- perhaps.

Any additional comments?

I'm sad that this wasn't as good as I'd hoped.
